- Welcome to the world of automated logfile management!
-
- Most of what you want to know should be contained in the logmgr.doc
- file contained in the same archive as this file. If not please let me know.
-
- Two things to bear in mind: firstly, the logmgr takes roughly 43Kb to execute.
- Currently it does not swap any portion of itself out when invoking the
- archiving command; consequently certain archiving commands may barf on
- encountering seriously large log files. (E.g. > 2 * available memory).
-
- Second thing: you need as much memory as possible to run the archive command
- in, this means that, if you are running Front Door inside Desqview, to pick
- a multitasker at random, you must increase the amount of memory assigned to
- the Front Door task. Alternatively, run logmgr once a day in some other way,
- i.e. from some other window than Front Door's.
-
- The logmgr is not restricted to Front Door logs. I also use it to manage my
- TosScan logs. It knows nothing of the format of the files, it only cares
- about their names.
-
- Please let me hear your opinions/problems/suggestions for improvement.
- If you have a problem, please send me any relevant screen/logfile output
- together with the command line used to invoke logmgr.
-
- Thanks,
