- ■ Legal Statement
- ═══════════════
-
- Nobody ever reads this but here it is. This program may be
- distributed among people as long as absolutely no modifications
- are made in the program. I, Brian Tardiff, will not be
- responsible for ANY damage that this program may cause. This
- program shouldn't cause any damage but I will not be responsible
- if it does. PLEASE read this documentation (or at least the
- setup) before you install the program. Most damage is a result
- of ignorance to follow instructions. Thank You.
-
-
- ■ Introduction Q-Prize is a unique door for QuickBBS and RemoteAccess
- ════════════ that allows the user to guess a number, and if he or she
- is correct, it lets the user select his or her OWN prize!
- The prizes are 100% SysOp Configurable. They are:
-
- ■ System Time
- ■ Upload Credit
- ■ Message Post Credit
- ■ A SPECIAL Prize Feature
-
- The prizes suit the needs of almost any user. If a user
- has a terrible file ratio, he or she may cash in with this
- prize. If your system uses a Post/Call Ratio (Like QMRD,
- another Hysteriaware product available on MASS Hysteria)
- the user may select this option to up his or her ratio.
- Most obviously though, many users would love to have a
- little more time. The user may take the time option and
- bank it for later use or use it during that call.
-
- The SPECIAL Prize feature allows you to give away something
- that isn't supported by Q-Prize. This feature is optional.
-
- Users are only allowed in Q-Prize once per day. That is,
- after they guess a number, they can't go back in until
- midnight. If for some reason a user drops carrier BEFORE
- he or she guesses a number, the user will be permitted back
- into the door that day.
-
- Q-Prize is fully multi-node compatible. The door can
- flawlessly handle multiple users simultaneously.
-
- Q-Prize has a full built in chat mode so you can talk to
- your user while he or she is in the door.
-
- Q-Prize has a 'Throw out User' feature so you can
- immediately return a user to the BBS for any reason.
-
- Q-Prize has a 'Force Win' feature. You may force the
- user on-line to come out a winner. The number the user
- guesses becomes irrelevant.
-
- Q-Prize constantly monitors Carrier Detection so programs
- such as WatchDog are [NOT] required.
-
- Q-Prize monitors Keyboard Timeout. If the program stays idle
- for two minutes, the door will automatically exit back to
- your system. However, the door will warn the user 15
- seconds before this happens.
-
-
- ■ Archive Files
- ═════════════
-
- QPRIZE.EXE = Main program
-
- QPRIZE.CFG = Sample configuration file
-
- QPRIZE.DOC = The file you are reading!
-
- QPINTRO.TXT = File displayed if user wants instructions.
- Modify this as you wish.
-
- QPSPEC.TXT = File displayed if winner selects Special Prize.
- Used for information of prize/obtaining/ect.
- Modify this as you wish.
-
- QPHELP.TXT = File displayed if winner selects "Help" from
- the Prize Menu.
- Modify this as you wish.
-
- QP1NODE.BAT = Example .BAT file for single node system not
- running Q-Prize from main BBS directory.
-
- QPMULTI.BAT = Example .BAT file for multi node systems.
-
- ORDER.FRM = Used to obtain registration KEY. Details (and
- address) at end of documentation.
-
- UPDATE.DOC = Upgrading from v2.2 information.
-
-
- ■ Files Q-Prize Creates
- ═════════════════════
-
- QPRIZE.DAY = Stores information of who has used their turn
- for the current day.
-
- QPRIZE.WIN = A list of all winners. If there is no .WIN
- file, this indicates that nobody has
- won. You specify in the .CFG file how
- many recent winners are shown to the
- user.
-
-
- ■ Configuration Installing Q-Prize to your system is very simple. First,
- ═════════════ you must edit the QPRIZE.CFG file to customize Q-Prize to
- your system. The format of the file is:
-
- Example in .CFG File
- ═══════════════════════
- Line #1: BBS Name The MASS Hysteria BBS
- Line #2: Range of number 15
- Line #3: Minutes to give 30
- Line #4: Uploads to give 5
- Line #5: K-Bytes for each u/l 25
- Line #6: M. Posts to give 10
- Line #7: Special Prize * [See BELOW!!]
- Line #8: # Of Recent Winners 15
- Line #9: Type of BBS RA, QUICK or SUPER
-
- ■ The "Range of number" option [Line #2] is the highest
- possible number that Q-Prize will select. For example, if
- this is set to 15, then the number the user is to guess
- is between 0 and 15.
-
- ■ The "Uploads to give" and "K-Bytes for each u/l" work
- together. In this example, the user would receive 5 uploads
- each being worth 25k each (125k total).
-
- ■ The SPECIAL PRIZE may be an 11 character description of what
- the prize is. (i.e. 'Software'). If you place an * on this
- line, instead of a word, the SPECIAL PRIZE feature will not
- be implemented. The prize will simply be listed as "N/A".
-
- ■ The "# Of Recent Winners" option tells Q-Prize how many
- of the recent winners to show to the user. The QPRIZE.WIN
- file keeps the names of everyone who has ever won Q-Prize.
- Say you set this variable to 15, then only the last 15
- of these people will be shown to the user. Handling
- the list this way benefits the SysOp and the User. The
- sysop has a log of everyone that ever won, and the user
- only has to look at a certain amount of them.
-
- ■ Type of BBS tells Q-Prize which BBS software you are
- running. RA for RemoteAccess, QUICK for QuickBBS or
- SUPER for SuperBBS.
-
- ■ The other options are basically self-explanatory.
-
-
- ■ Installation - Single Node Setup
- ═════════════════════════════════
-
- For a 1 node RemoteAccess system, you have two options for
- installing Q-Prize.
-
- Option #1: Place all of the files in your main BBS directory.
- (ie: C:\RA). Simply execute QPRIZE.EXE from a
- Type 7 Menu Command and you are all set. No
- parameters are needed to run the program.
-
- Option #2: You may wish to run Q-Prize from a seperate directory.
- To do this, create a directory on your system to
- hold all the Q-Prize files. (I'll refer to this
- directory as \QPRIZE but you may name it whatever
- you desire). To run the program from another
- directory the path to the EXITINFO.BBS and DORINFO1.DEF
- must be supplied as a parameter:
-
- Example: QPRIZE.EXE C:\RA
-
- See QP1NODE.BAT for example on this method!
-
-
- ■ Installation - Multi Node Setup
- ═══════════════════════════════
-
- Q-Prize is a complete multi-node door. If you following the setup
- correctly, Q-Prize will handle simultaneous users flawlessly. This
- is NOT another one of those doors that say "Sorry, someone is using
- this door." when a person is already in.
-
- Just so there is NO confusion on how to set this door for multi-
- node operation, I have provided detailed instructions on this.
- Many people are new to this concept. QPMULTI.BAT is the example
- file included with this archive and is the file I will often
- refer to. You may rename this to QPRIZE.BAT or whatever you
- wish.
-
- Hopefully your multi-node system is set in away so the paths
- are identical except for the node number. (ie: \RA\NODE1, \RA\NODE2)
- If this isn't the case, you will need more than one batch file.
- If this is your case, contact me and I will inform you on how
- to accomplish this.
-
- Create a Type 7 menu entry with the following info:
- ───────────────────────────────────────────────────
-
- 1 2 3 4 5 6
- 123456789012345678901234567890123456789012345678901
- [^Z^] Q-Prize
-
- COMMAND.COM /C QPMULTI.BAT *N
-
- ───────────────────────────────────────────────────
-
-
- The COMMAND.COM /C QPMULTI.BAT loads the batch file to run the
- door. Make sure the batch file is located in a directory that
- has been pathed otherwise it will not load.
-
- The *N passes the current node number to the batch file. This
- is required for multi-node operation.
-
- Finally, edit the batch file that comes with this program to
- suit your needs. The QPMULTI.BAT contains extra info to show
- you how this works.
-
-
- ■ Registration
- ════════════
-
- If you hate seeing the 'Unregistered Version' on the door,
- just imagine getting rid of it! For a small donation, you
- can do just that. HysteriaWare software is kept running
- by SysOps JUST LIKE YOU who continue to register these
- programs. Without you guys, none of these programs would
- be made available. There are many registration options
- available and I feel that all of them are very fair. Any
- contribution would be greatly appreciated.
-
- Registration Options
-
- ■ One time registration obtains a KEY for all future versions.
-
- $ 6.00 - File Request KEY from BBS.
- $ 8.50 - Mailed KEY (5.25" Disk).
- $10.00 - Mailed KEY (3.5" Disk).
-
- $20.00 - HysteriaWare Special! Mailed (5.25") -> See Below
- $22.50 - HysteriaWare Special! Mailed (3.5")
-
-
- The HysteriaWare Special is three of the major HysteriaWare
- programs. The programs are the Q-Dog Door, Leech Finder v4.0
- (The Enhanced Version), and of course, The Q-Prize door! .
-
- HysteriaWare Special constists of:
-
- ■ All 3 latest releases of the Public
- Programs.
-
- ■ Registration keys or actual registered
- .EXE files for all three.
-
-
-
- Simply print the ORDER.FRM file to your printer, fill out the
- required information and send a check or money order (no cash
- please) to:
-
- Brian Tardiff
- 9 Hawthorne Rd
- Newburyport, Ma 01950
-
- Note: Please make the check payable to Brian Tardiff.
-
-
- ■ Implementing Registration
- ═════════════════════════
-
- When you receive your key, you must rename it "QPRIZE.KEY"
- and place it in the directory that Q-Prize is run from.
- If Q-Prize recognizes it as a valid key, it will display
- that it is a registered door. If your Q-Prize door still
- says "Un-Registered Copy", and you have followed the proper
- procedure, there may be a problem with your key. If this
- happens, contact me. ANY PROBLEM WITH A KEY THAT IS A RESULT
- OF MY ERROR, WILL BE RE-COMPILED AND SENT TO YOUR SYSTEM FREE
- OF CHARGE.
