- ║ Welcome to The Q-Dog Door! ║
- ╙────────────────────────────╜
-
- Welcome to the Q-Dog Door! Q-Dog is a full blown, ANSI animated,
- single and multi-node RemoteAccess door. This door in single-node
- mode will allow your users to:
-
- ■ Own and name their own ANSI Doggie
- ■ Bet System Time racing their personal dog in an
- ANSI/ANIMATED race against 4 generic dogs
- ■ First and Second Place Pay-Offs on races
- ■ Modify the shape of their dog
- ■ View statistics of their dog's lifetime achievments
-
- In multi-node operation, Q-Dog will have all of the above features
- plus:
-
- ■ Nodes 1 and 2 can race each other! (in real time!)
- ■ Paging (or inviting) other node on system for a race
- ■ Ability to view Who is On-Line the BBS
- ■ Ability to view Who is Using the Q-Dog Door
-
- In addition, Q-Dog offers the following features:
-
- ■ Full protection against carrier lost and Inactivity
- Timeouts
- ■ A full configuration program which modifies:
-
- ■ Name of your BBS
- ■ Number of Races Per Day
- ■ Maximum Winnings per Day
- ■ Winning Pay-Off Ratio (Time)
- ■ 2nd Place Pay-Off Ratio (Time)
- ■ Type of BBS Software
- ■ And a few SETUP (SysOp) Features
-
- ■ Allowing user to stay in the door for the initial
- time that the user entered with. This safeguards
- against upcoming events.
- ■ Users with less than 5 minutes are sent back to BBS
- ■ Users with ANSI Graphics shut OFF are sent back to BBS
- ■ Due to the nature of the game, 300 baud is not allowed

- ║ A Comment About Compatability ║
- ╙───────────────────────────────╜
-
- Q-Dog v3.10 has been written to use the file structures used by
- RemoteAccess v1.10. Previous to the 1.10 release of RemoteAccess,
- almost all of the popular software packages used identical file
- structures. Now that some of the files are slightly different,
- Q-Dog may not work 100% with other bulletin board software. I
- am almost positive that both of the following will happen:
-
- 1) Everyone and his brother will write 'conversion'
- programs to handle running RA v1.10 doors on their
- type of system.
-
- 2) When the authors of the other bulletin board programs
- update their software, they will more than likely
- duplicate the structures of RemoteAccess. If you
- are one of those authors, please take this as advice!
-
- Therefore, Q-Dog has been cosmetically equipped with displaying
- either "RemoteAccess", "QuickBBS", or "SuperBBS" but the program
- looks for RA v1.10 structures. Keeping up with all the different
- file types would be a nightmare.

- Q-Dog also creates many single-node data files which all begin
- with "QDOG" plus a special extension. In Multi-Node mode Q-Dog
- creates all Single-Node data files plus many data files with
- the extension ".QDM".

- ║ QDCONFIG - Configuration Program ║
- ╙──────────────────────────────────╜
-
- To hopefully reduce many problems with setup, I have written
- QDCONFIG to assist you. This program will give you a detailed
- description about every setup option. Unlike documentation
- setup, you will have the chance to actually set the option
- WHILE you read it's description. When you first execute the
- program, it creates a default configuration file. Go through
- each option and set it to your needs. Do not worry about
- "messing up" for you can always re-enter the program and change
- any one (or all) of the setups.
-
- QDCONFIG is also used for registrations [See Q-Dog Registration]
-
-
- ╓──────────────────────────╖
- ║ Single-Node System Setup ║
- ╙──────────────────────────╜
-
- You have two options of setup with a Single-Node System.
-
- Option #1 - Install to Main BBS Directory:
-
- 1) Copy all Q-Dog files into your main BBS directory.
- (ie: C:\RA)
- 2) Run the QDCONFIG program from that directory and
- configure the program to suit your needs.
- 3) Simply run QDOG.EXE (with NO parameters) using a Type 7
- exit from RemoteAccess.
-
- Option #2 - Install to another directory:
-
- 1) Copy all Q-Dog files into a seperate directory
- (ie: C:\DOORS\QDOG)
- 2) Run the QDCONFIG program from that directory and
- configure the program to suit your needs.
- 3) Using a Type 7 Exit from RemoteAccess execute a
- batch file such as the included QDSINGLE.BAT. You
- must tell Q-Dog where it can find files such as
- DORINFO1.DEF and EXITINFO.BBS. The syntax is:
-
- syntax: QDOG.EXE [Path to Files]
- ie: QDOG.EXE C:\RA
-
- See QDSINGLE.BAT for example of changing directories
- and running the Q-Dog Program.
-
-
- ╓─────────────────────────╖
- ║ Multi-Node System Setup ║
- ╙─────────────────────────╜
-
- Setting Q-Dog up for a Multi-Node System is easy if you
- follow these directions. To run Q-Dog in Multi-Node mode
- you must install SHARE.EXE that comes with your MS-DOS
- package. For more information on SHARE, see your DOS manual.
-
- So that there is no confusion, these directions will be as
- detailed as possible. Please follow these step by step.
-
- 1) Create a seperate directory on your system and
- copy all the Q-Dog files into that directory.
- (ie: C:\DOORS\QDOG)
- 2) Run the QDCONFIG program from that directory and
- configure the program to suit your needs. Pay
- special attention to the option about Number of Nodes.
-
- Now for the actual system installation. The example batch file
- QDMULTI.BAT will be the file referred to in these steps. You
- may rename this batch file to suit your needs.
-
- 3) Create a Type 7 menu entry with the following info:
-
- ───────────────────────────────────────────────────
-
- 1 2 3 4 5 6
- 123456789012345678901234567890123456789012345678901
- [^D^] Q-Dog
-
- COMMAND.COM /C QDMULTI.BAT *N
-
- ───────────────────────────────────────────────────
-
- The optional data is what is important here. The
- COMMAND.COM /C QDMULTI.BAT simply calls the batch
- file. Make sure the batch file that runs Q-Dog
- is placed in a pathed directory so RA can easily
- locate it. The *N tells QDMULTI.BAT which node
- number the program is being executed for. The
- number passed by *N becomes the %1 in the batch
- file.
-
- 4) Modify the batch file to suit your needs. In this
- setup, Q-Dog needs to know where to find files
- such as DORINFO1.DEF and EXITINFO.BBS. The syntax is:
-
- syntax: QDOG.EXE [Path to Files]
- ie: QDOG.EXE C:\RA\LINE%1
-
- The %1 represents the node number passed by the *N
- from RemoteAccess. In this example, if the nodenumber
- was 1, Q-Dog would look for the files in the directory
- C:\RA\LINE1.
-
- For more help on this, see the example batch file
- QDMULTI.BAT.
-
- Q-Dog creates many Multi-Node data files in the directory which
- it is located. Every effort has been taken to maintain these
- files in an orderly fashion. However, problems can arrise
- if your system is 'hung' or a sudden power failure occurrs.
- Therefore, in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file, I STRONGLY suggest that
- you add the following:
-
- CD\DOORS\QDOG (or whatever path you use)
- DEL *.QDM
-
- This will insure that no extra data files are left present
- to interrupt normal door operation in an unlikely event.
- Some .QDM are supposed always be there, but when they are
- deleted, Q-Dog recreates them without problem. Others are
- supposed to be erased during door operation. Anyways, just
- delete them all.
-
-
- ╓───────────────────╖
- ║ Registering Q-Dog ║
- ╙───────────────────╜
-
- As you will see, the Q-Dog package is the result of many
- hours of hard work. The fact that people everywhere use
- this program is incentive enough to keep writing. This
- program is in NO way any type of 'Cripple Ware' and the only
- thing different about your version is the subtle notice
- that mentions the door is un-registered. It irritates me
- when authors of slightly significant programs literally
- DEMAND very high registration fees. Personally, I
- think you should do what you feel is right. If you feel
- I deserve a registration check from you, then I would
- appreciate it if you would register the door. There are
- many registration options to obtain a Q-Dog KEY, starting
- with the very fair price of $6.00.
-
- For your convenience, QDCONFIG will handle all of your
- questions about registering. Using the answers you
- give, the program will output a registration form to
- a text file OR your printer. All you have to do is mail
- it along with your check. It couldn't be simpler!
-
- Finally, if you are the author of a program that requires
- registration, send me netmail. We can probably work out
- a trade. This benefits both of us!
