- Introduction
- ------------
-
- MCFRAM is the workhorse of the MCFreq package. It is the program which
- does all the maintenance, including notifying users when their files
- have arrived, moving the requested files to an area where the user has
- access to download them from, as well as handling all aspects of the
- File Request Routing and even file requests from other systems.
-
-
- Overview
- --------
-
- MCFRAM searches for incoming files that users have requested via MCFREQ.
- When a file is found in the inbound file directory it copies it to the
- download area specified in MCFreqEd and updates the list of downloadable
- files (FILES.BBS) so your users may download them. In addition, it
- writes a message to the user informing him/her that the requested file
- has arrived and which area it may be downloaded from. If you are running
- a multi-node QBBS 2.75 or RemoteAccess V1.xx then McFram will check to
- see if the users is still logged onto the system when the file arrives.
- If so, an online message will be sent to that user informing him/her
- that the file has arrived.
-
- MCFRAM also checks your drive space before copying each file to assure
- that there is adequate space left for the move. It will leave you with
- at least 100K of space remaining after it is completed. Files that
- cannot be moved due to insufficient space are left alone and are moved
- when the space becomes available.
-
- MCFRAM also handles Routed File Requests. See the ROUTING.DOC for more
- information about how this is done. When a Routed Request is received,
- MCFRAM will send the file to the system that requested it, and will
- leave the file in your inbound area, where you may then decide whether
- to keep it yourself, or delete it.
-
- MCFRAM now also handles File Requests. In McFreqed, under Miscellaneous,
- tell it to force McFram to scan netmail, and fill in the information
- below that prompt. Now other sysops can send file requests directly to
- McFreq. This is to be used if you run a large system with many files,
- and have problems with other systems mailers timing out before your
- system get a chance to send the files. If you don't know what I'm
- talking about, then you don't need to use this.
-
- If you tell McFram to scan netmail, it will scan through looking for
- messages addressed to McFreq. If it finds one that did not originate
- from your system, then it will read the message, and search for the
- requested files, and put them on hold for the other system, and they
- may poll back to pick them up.
-
- McFram will also make sure that the other system does not request more
- than a certain number of files, or total size via a single message. This
- will prevent someone from requesting *.* If these limits are reached,
- then McFram creates a message to the other sysop telling them, and puts
- it on hold. If a requested file is not found, then the other person is
- also notified via a message on hold.
-
- A file request to McFreq does NOT require the file request flag to be
- turned on in the message. The format of a file request message to McFreq
- is as follows:
-
- By: User Name
- To: MCFREQ , <Receiving Systems address here>
- Re: <can be anything>
- St:
- -----------------------------------------------------
- \FILE01.EXT
- \FILE02.EXT
- \FILE03.EXT
-
- Note the leading \. This tells McFram that it is a requested file. Also,
- if you enter HELP for the subject line, McFram will generate a message
- telling the sysop how to request files from McFreq, and will put this
- message on hold for them.
-
- Password protected file requests are not supported!
-
- Magic Names are not supported!
-
- These will be addressed in the near future.
-
-
- Operational Notes
- -----------------
-
- It is suggested that you install MCFRAM in a batch file that is run
- after each incoming mail session. This will ensure that the files will
- be moved as quickly as possible.
-
- MCFRAM requires a single command line parameter, the path to MCFREQ.CFG.
-
- Examples: MCFRAM D:\RA\MCFREQ <--- Acceptable path
- MCFRAM D:\RA\MCFREQ\ <--- Also acceptable
-
-
-
-
- Multi-Node & Network Compatibility
- ----------------------------------
-
- MCFRAM is now able to properly create messages to the user even when a
- user is on another node, if you are using Remote Access or QBBS.
