- UPDATES TO DR. MATCHER (Version 0.98)
- 3/7/91
-
- I'M BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
- Sorry for the delay in getting Dr. Matcher 0.98a out, things
- have been pretty hectic lately. But here it is, with a bunch of
- much-requested enhancements!!
-
- You're probably in a hurry to get your new version of Dr.
- Matcher up and running. If you're running 0.97 already, just
- replace it with the 0.98 DRMATCH.EXE file. No file conversions
- are needed. If you enabled user profiles (the short descriptions
- that users have been begging for), just run DRMATCH /M once to
- ensure that the user profile database (DRPROF.DR) is in one
- piece.
-
-
- Here's the enhancements:
-
- * User profiles are now available. These are the short
- descriptions users can file with their questionnaires. If you
- specified user profiles when running DRINIT, they'll be enabled
- as soon as you install 0.98a. If you didn't specify them, change
- line 22 in your DRMATCH.DR file to a number from 1 through 20
- (the maximum number of lines allowed). Then run DRMATCH with the
- /M option to build or rebuild the DRPROF.DR file.
-
- * Users can edit their profiles with the PR command when
- editing their questionnaire. Profiles are listed when
- matchmaking in detail mode. (e.g. using the M command).
-
- * Dr. Matcher now supports 38400 baud.
-
- * The latest Microsoft(r) professional BASIC compiler was
- used for this release. This will give more room for expansion,
- and hopefully eliminate the mysterious hangs and string space
- corruptions which occurred with 0.97. It also reduces
- development time as it has enhanced debugging and testing
- facilities.
-
- * The command-line parser and certain other features have
- been improved to fix bugs.
-
- * Commands can now be stacked with commas or plus signs, as
- well as semicolons and spaces.
-
- * The following new command-line options have been
- added:
-
- /P:path lets you specify a path to the DORINFOx, CALLINFO,
- PCBOARD files. This is useful for multi-node BBS's which put a
- file for each node in a different directory.
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
- /M tells Dr. Matcher to run a daily maintenance cycle and
- compress the user profile database, and then exit. This is
- useful if you run your maintenance during a daily automatic BBS
- event.
-
- /S tells Dr. Matcher not to run maintenance, even if it is
- due. This is useful when running maintenance as a separate
- event.
-
-
- UPDATES TO DR. MATCHER (Version 0.96/0.97)
- 2/19/90
-
- Version 0.97e fixes parsing problems in PCBoard, and
- correctly calculates time remaining on the BBS.
-
- Version 0.97d fixes problem with parsing baud rate from
- PCBOARD.SYS.
-
- Many enhancements have been made since the last public
- release of Dr. Matcher (0.95c). They are as follows:
-
- * User and configuration file format has been changed to
- allow room for future expansion, particularly user profiles. A
- conversion program, DRTO96.EXE, is included for converting
- existing 0.95 files to 0.97.
-
- * Support for PCBoard 14.0 has been added.
-
- * Support for FOSSIL drivers has been added. When running
- DRINIT or DRTO96, you can specify whether to use standard BASIC
- communications or the FOSSIL driver. The FOSSIL driver has the
- advantages of being able to access additional ports (COM3 and
- up), as well as improving flexibility and performance, especially
- in multi-tasking environments (such as DESQview). The FOSSIL
- support has been tested with X00.SYS (Gwinn's Communication
- Driver 1.10a), but should work with other FOSSIL-compatible
- drivers.
-
- * The WILDCAT! interface has been improved, so it should
- properly lock the port at 19200 bps on BBS's set up that way.
-
- * ANSI color support has been added. The sysop has the
- option to view the screens locally in monochrome or color. The
- monochrome option is handy for sysops with monochrome monitors as
- it eliminates underlining or poor readability. If a user gets
- color on the BBS then they'll get color in Dr. Matcher.
-
- * Prompts and displays have been changed significantly to
- be more "user friendly." It is easier to distinguish between
- preferences (what you're looking for) and your questionnaire (who
- you are). Prompts are clearer, and help menus are shown
- automatically. When viewing matches, answers that don't fit on
- one line are indented on the following line for easier reading.
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
- * Several bugs have been fixed in the sysop chat function,
- particularly random hangs and timeout messages. In addition, the
- last prompt and whatever the user typed is redisplayed on return
- from chat so the user can pick up right where he or she left off.
-
- * "Retroactive matchmaking" has been added. In addition to
- showing the percentage match of your preferences to their
- questionnaires, Dr. Matcher shows the percentage match of your
- questionnaire to their preferences, so you find out if they match
- to you AND if you match to them.

- UPDATES TO DR. MATCHER (VERSION 0.95c)
- 7/8/89
-
- Version 0.95c fixes a problem which could occur when a user
- drops carrier in a DESQview or similar environment. The problem
- could lead to an endless loop or a fatal error message.
-
- UPDATES TO DR. MATCHER (VERSION 0.95b)
- 6/9/89
-
- Version 0.95b is the first public release of Dr. Matcher to
- include functional Wildcat! support. An additional enhancement
- is the addition of the F2 key to allow the sysop to temporarily
- exit to DOS during a Dr. Matcher session.
-
- Version 0.95 adds some new features, particularly Wildcat!
- support. If you use Wildcat!, Dr. Matcher will read the
- CALLINFO.BBS file to get the necessary information from the BBS.
- The DRINIT program will allow you to select which BBS type you
- have.
-
- Multiple MUST-MATCH preferences can be specified for a single
- question now. If any of the specified preferences match the
- questionnaire answer, the questionnaire is included in the
- matching process. When editing preferences, it's possible to set
- a question to MUST-MATCH by prefacing the preference with a
- slash, or to turn MUST-MATCH off by prefacing the preference with
- a period (.).
-
- When running the matchmaker, the user is now prompted for a
- minimum percentage. If a percentage is given, only
- questionnaires with a percentage match equal to or greater than
- the minimum percentage is shown. This is useful for a crowded
- matcher when a user gets a large number of matches and only
- wants the good ones.
-
- IF YOU'RE UPGRADING FROM 0.92
-
- An additional field has been added to the DRMATCH.DR file.
- Line 19 must contain a zero (0) for RBBS-PC systems or a one (1)
- for Wildcat! systems. Wildcat! systems have three additional
- fields in DRMATCH.DR: the name of the BBS, the sysop's first
- name, and the sysop's last name. Then run DRTO96 to convert your
- files.
-
- UPDATES TO DR. MATCHER (VERSION 0.92)
-
- Version 0.92 works properly under all supported versions of
- RBBS-PC, particularly from a sysop standpoint. In RBBS-PC 17-1A
- and later, the method of detecting the sysop logging onto a door
- has changed slightly. Therefore, a sysop who entered Dr. Matcher
- under 17-1A or later was labeled "Sysop" instead of his/her real
- name and was unable to access sysop functions (unless the sysop
- met the security level requirement set in Dr. Matcher).
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
- IF YOU'RE UPGRADING FROM A VERSION PRIOR TO 0.92
-
- An additional feature has been added to 0.92. It allows the
- sysop to specify whether to use "Sysop" or real name in his or
- her questionnaire. This is controlled by line 18 in the
- DRMATCH.DR file (set up by DRINIT).
-
- If you're upgrading from an earlier version of Dr. Matcher,
- this line will need to be added to your DRMATCH.DR. Using an
- ASCII text editor, go to the bottom of the DRMATCH.DR file and
- add the following on a new line: 0 to use your real name, or -1
- to use "Sysop." Also, you may need to reenter your questionnaire
- info or change the user name of your questionnaire (using the
- user editor function in Dr. Matcher).
-
- If you enter Dr. Matcher and get the following message:
-
- Member access granted to <sysop's real name>,
-
- immediately enter D to go into the sysop editor; specify edit
- users; for user name specify your REAL name. Delete this record.
- Then specify the name "Sysop" and change that name to your real
- name. You can then access your questionnaire normally.
-
- If you get the following message:
-
- Member access granted to Sysop
-
- immediately enter D to go into the sysop editor; specify edit
- users; for user name specify "Sysop." Delete this record. Then
- specify your REAL name and change that name to "Sysop." You can
- then access your questionnaire normally.
-
- You must also enter line 19, BBS type, into your DRMATCH.DR
- file. For RBBS users this line should contain 0.
-
- VERSION 0.91 UPDATE
-
- This version will run in network/multitasking environments
- without getting Error 70 (Permission Denied). It was caused by
- incomplete record locking code in the program which has been
- temporarily removed until the full record locking is implemented.
- There is little need for record locking in Dr. Matcher since it
- is unlikely that two users will be updating the same record at
- the same time. (In fact, it would have to be the Sysop and a
- user).
