- Camptown Races
- ver 1.0
- 6/1/91
-
- Copyright 1991
- by
- Kent D. Ogle
-
- The following files are used by Camptown Races:
-
- Camptown.exe * The executable file
- Camptown.hor * The list of horse names
- Camptown.hlp * The help file
- Camptown.ctl * The control file
- Campedit.exe User Roster Maintenence
- Camptown.doc This file
- Camptown.key Key file for registered users (not part of zipfile)
- Install.doc Installation help
- Register.doc fill out and send in!
-
- The following files are CREATED by Camptown Races for use by you and
- by the program itself:
-
- Campten.* ASCII and ANSI files of the top ten
- Camphall.asc An ASCII hall-of-fame file
-
- asteriks (*) indicate files that must be present for door to execute.
-
- CAMPTOWN.EXE
-
- This is the executable file. It uses an interface called "BBS Onliner
- Interface, or BOI. If you are unfamiliar with BOI, or its command line
- parameters, Please read the accompaning file 'Install.doc'. It will
- explain what command line parameters to use, and the options available.
- If you have used doors that utilize BOI, it would be good to read the
- file anyway, as some of the switches are inactive for this door.
-
-
- CAMPTOWN.ROS
-
- This file is the list of all players, the amount of money they have, and
- the last time they played the game. It also has a field for number of races
- run, in case they exit the game before they use all their daily plays, to
- give them the option to come back at another time (that same day).
- The file Camptown.ros will be created by the game itself if it is not found
- at the beginning of the game. The game can be reset by erasing this file.
- If, during the initialization of the game, the player has no money (went
- broke during last play), the cash level is re-established, and the player
- is allowed ALL their daily plays.
-
- NOTE: The format of this file has changed from previous versions. You MUST
- delete any previous versions that exist.
-
- CAMPTOWN.HOR
-
- This file is one of the features that makes Camptown Races so fun!
- It is an ASCII file of horse names, not longer than 15 characters each,
- and one name per line. You may add, change or delete any of these names.
- The original list reflects local BBS users in my area. The file MAY contain
- up to 200 different horse names. Feel free to be creative with this one,
- you won't hurt my feelings by changing it!!
-
-
- CAMPTOWN.KEY
-
- The file Camptown.key is a key file with coded information. Once registered,
- a key file will be sent to you. Without the key file, the opening screen will
- pause for about 10 seconds, and your players will be limited to 5 races a day.
- Once registered, you may select the maximum number of daily plays with this
- file.
-
-
- CAMPTOWN.HLP
-
- The help file. Can be viewed from within the door, or displayed externally.
- Similar to the top ten file in functionality. Users may prefer to read the
- instructions without needing to start the door. This makes that possible.
-
-
- CAMPTOWN.CTL
-
- The BOI does not currently support the use of the sysop's name or board
- name. I have chosen to utilize these factors though, and that decision
- prompted me to have one more file to get data from. The last line is setup
- for use by the automatic housekeeping program, campedit.exe. You can
- change it to reflect how many days you want to keep someone on the user
- roster when they don't play. The format is simple, and if you follow the
- few rules that apply, you should have no trouble setting it up. Here is
- an example, with the information from my alpha-test board:
-
-
- SYSOPFIRST Scott
- SYSOPLAST Stuart
- BBSNAME The PC-Depot
- DELETE-AFTER 30
-
-
- That's it. 4 simple lines. One space between the label and the data, and a
- carriage return at the end of each line. In fact, the labels don't even
- need to be there, so long as the data begins at column 12 for the sysop first
- name, column 11 for sysop last name, column 9 for the board name, and
- column 14 for the delete-after.
-
- NOTE: The format of this file has changed! If you have a previous version
- of Camptown Races, please edit this file to reflect the changes.
-
-
- CAMPTEN.ASC
- CAMPTEN.ANS
- CAMPHALL.ASC
-
- These are ASCII and ANSI files of the top ten, and an ASCII file of the
- hall-of-fame (players who exceed one million dollars) created by the door,
- and updated at the end of each user's game. Some sysops like creating an
- option to view the standings without needing to actually enter the door.
- If you fit into that category, there ya go.
-
-
- CAMPEDIT.EXE
-
- This is the maintanence file, which will delete inactive users. You
- can envoke it from a batch file as part of your daily maintanence.
- The command to envoke it is simply 'campedit'.
-
- Campedit will look for the *.ctl file and find the "Delete-after"
- variable, and check all users for their last play, deleting
- those that have not played within the specified time.
-
-
-
- REGISTRATION
-
- Camptown Races is distributed as shareware. If your users find it
- enjoyable, ask them to help you register. If you continue to use
- Camptown Races after a resonable "trial period" please send me the
- 15 dollar (US) registration fee. I won't beg or whine for the fee,
- but if your users play this door and enjoy it, please register. If a
- good percentage of people register this door, there will be updates,
- and registered users will be able to upgrade free of charge.
-
- Registered sysops realize the following benefits:
- 1) No delay during opening screen.
- 2) No "Please Register" messages on opening and closing screens.
- 3) You decide how many races your users may run per day.
- 4) Interactive User Editor.*
- 5) Satisfied feeling from promoting the shareware concept.
-
-
- When registering, be sure to provide a fidonet address (If available) for
- mailing the key file. This is my preferred method of sending out the keyfiles.
- If you are not part of fidonet, I'll send the key file to your home. And
- I'll even pay for the stamp(s)! (grin)
-
-
- Special Thanks go to Scott Stuart of The PC-Depot BBS, and Jim Collins of the
- Crawly-Crypt BBS, both of Joplin, Missouri.
-
- Correspondence may be sent to me via fidonet addresses:

-
- Both of the above BBS's will always have the newest version of Camptown
- Races, along with my other doors (including BioGuide-the biorhythm door),
- and any other shareware program I develop.
