- The BOOKIE JOINT
-
- Some last minute notes and pointers...
-
- The SERIESnn files contain NFL REGULAR SEASON AND PLAYOFF DATA. If you
- decide to run a pre-season Bookie Joint, omit the 'SERIES' files
- from the game's directory so they won't get updated with pre-season. At
- season's end (after the Super Bowl) save your 'SERIES' files for use in the
- following season and repeat the above procedure.
-
- The PWEEK-nn files you received contain NFL REGULAR SEASON SCHEDULES
- for weeks 1-17 (yup there's 17 weeks this season). If you decide to include
- pre-season games, you'll have to rename the original PWEEK-nn files. For
- example, if you have 4 weeks of pre-season games, rename PWEEK-01 to PWEEK-05,
- PWEEK-02 to PWEEK-06, etc. The first 4 (pre-season) PWEEK files must be
- entered manually using BOOKSYS.EXE. The PWEEK files may be discarded after the
- season is over.
-
- The file PROTEAM.DAT contains cumulative stats for the NFL teams.
- Again, if you decide to run a pre-season schedule, YOU MUST DELETE THIS FILE
- AFTER THE PRE-SEASON SCHEDULE IS OVER. The Bookie Joint builds team standings
- from the data in PROTEAM.DAT.
-
- Leave the file PROTEAM.TXT alone. The data here will be good for a few
- more seasons anyway.
-
- There's a time zone utility included in the ZIP file. It's called
- TCHANGER.EXE. Use it ONLY IF YOU ARE IN OTHER THAN THE EASTERN TIME ZONE.
- This utility will change the schedules to your time zone. Use it BEFORE you
- rename the PWEEK files (see above) if you run pre-season games. Put
- TCHANGER.EXE in the same dir as the original PWEEK files and run it.
-
- The above refer ONLY to the PRO (NFL) areas of The Bookie Joint.
-
- ---------------------------
-
- All college games are considered to be 'regular season' and there are
- no 'SERIES' files for college teams. As such, the college schedule begins with
- the first CWEEK file you enter and ends with the last. A COLTEAM.DAT file is
- created but is of no consequence at this time.
-
- ---------------------------
-
- Also note that both BOOKIE.EXE and BOOKSYS.EXE require the name of the
- config file on the command line. This is a change from earlier versions.
-
- ---------------------------
-
- If you edit the BOOKSTUP.TXT file to allow larger bets per game and/or
- a larger starting user bankroll BE CAUTIOUS. You may be sacrificing realism
- for a 'big numbers' game. When the season winds down and the playoffs begin,
- you can 'up the ante' a bit. There are fewer playoff games each week so you
- may want to increase the bet allowed. NEVER EXCEED $30,000 PER BET.
