- Arena warrior is exactly what the name says it is. It is a game of one-
- on-one arena combat. You act as a Manager of a team of warriors. Your Team
- consists of ten warriors, each of which has his/her own statistics. The
- statistics consist of five different attributes, each of which has an important
- role in making your warrior a GREAT warrior.
-
- These attributes are:
-
- Strength - This stat will determine the amount of damage your warrior
- may inflict on the opposing warrior.
- Attack - The attack stat determines the warrior's ability to hit the
- opposing warrior.
- Dexterity - This is the warrior's ability to avoid the opposing
- warrior's attack.
- Constitution - Basically your warrior's hitpoints, it determines how much
- damage your warrior can take before he falls or dies.
- Speed - This stat determines how fast your warrior is when he
- attacks; the faster a warrior is the more attacks he will
- get.
-
- When you go to make your warrior, you will be rolled up a set of stats
- which you can arrange in any order you want, according to the attributes. If
- you don't like the stats that you are given, you can reroll them until you like
- the stats...but you only get 3 chances and you can't go back if the next roll
- is even worse than the first.
-
- *NOTE* The very first warrior that you make will most likely be your best
- warrior, and most of your other warriors probably won't be quite as
- superior as this warrior most likely will be. We consider him to be
- your Team Captain. But also remember the stats are generated randomly,
- so anything could happen.
-
- SKILLS
- Each warrior has his own personal set of skills which can be obtained
- by using the four available weapon types. Those weapon types are the Sword,
- Axe, Mace, and Spear. No one weapon is better than another. Your warrior
- starts out with 0 skill points with all of the weapon types. To gain these
- skill points (up to +9 per stat per weapon) you must engage in Arena Combat!
- Depending on the weapon you choose, you may or may not gain skill point(s).
- When your warrior does get skills with a particular weapon, the skills will be
- added to his/her base stats during combat while using that particular weapon.
- Your warrior may have skills with all the weapon types.
-
- EXAMPLES
- When you enter the '[I]nfo on your team' option you will get
- something like the following:
-
- Jungle Safari:
-
- Name Won Lost Kills St/At/Dx/Cn/Sp Sword Axe Mace Spear Belt
- -------------------- --- ---- ----- -------------- ----- ----- ----- ----- ----
- Panther 6 2 2 42 19 10 24 8 00709 00000 11014 00100 Con
- Cheetah 4 4 0 13 10 17 19 7 00003 20100 00101 00002
- Tarzan 2 3 0 15 8 10 40 6 20100 00000 06001 10000
- Gorilla 2 0 1 17 15 23 13 8 00000 00000 00000 02003
-
- And etc... Now to explain this all to you.
- Jungle Safari is the Team Name.
- Panther, Cheetah, Tarzan, and Gorilla are the warrior names.
-
- The columns with Won Lost Kills is the warrior record. Panther won 6,
- lost 2 and has killed 2 warriors. His STrength is 42, His ATtack is 19, his
- DeXterity is 10, his CoNstitution is 24 and his SPeed is 8. When Panther uses
- his sword in Arena combat he gets +0 to STR, +0 to ATT, +7 to DEX, +0 to CON,
- and +9 to SPD. When he uses his Axe he gets +0 to all stats. When Panther uses
- his mace he gets +1 to STR, +1 to ATT, +0 to DEX, +1 to CON, and +4 to SPD. It
- works the same way for all warriors. And to finish it off, if the warrior
- happens to have a Belt, as does Panther, it will be indicated on the Belt
- column.
-
- BELTS
- There are five different belts available for the taking in arena
- combat. What is a belt you ask? Well a belt is like a skill bonus. The five
- belts are the STRength belt, the ATTack belt, the DEXterity belt, the
- CONstitution belt and the SPD belt. If your warrior has a belt, 5 points will
- be added to the appropriate stat when he fights with that belt. No warrior may
- have more than one belt at a time, and you must have your warrior in active
- duty at all times when he has a belt until he no longer has the belt. If your
- belted warrior loses, he or she will give the belt to his victor. But if your
- warrior is challenged by another belted warrior and your warrior loses, you
- give your belt to the warrior who just beat you and that warrior's belt is put
- into the pool for a belt bash. But if a belted warrior is challenged by
- another belted warrior and the challenger loses the fight, the challenger's
- belt goes up for grabs in the belt bash and the challenged gets to keep his
- belt.
-
- There is also an ULTimate warrior belt available. The same rules apply
- to this belt as all the other belts except this belt adds 3 points to all your
- stats. BUT be warned..this is a great belt, many warriors have been challenged
- and KILLED with this belt. This belt is sometimes considered more of a curse
- than anything else, so watch out!
-
- Belted warriors can be challenged by other warriors who have NO MORE THAN x
- number of wins more than the belted warrior has. This number is configurable
- by your Referee. If "x" is set to 0, for example, then the same rules apply to
- challenging belted warriors as those challenging any other warrior.
-
- And one final note: once your warrior is dead, he is gone forever.
-
- RETIREMENT FOR WARRIORS
- If you have a warrior that you don't particularly like, and you can't
- seem to get that warrior killed, maybe you can put him into early retirement.
- If that warrior's win/loss record is bad enough, you can retire that warrior
- opening another slot on your team for a potentially better warrior. If the
- warrior has 10 more losses than wins, then that warrior can be retired if you
- choose.
-
- ACTIVE AND REPLACEMENT ORDER
- When you form your team, it will be placed in active to replacement
- order in the order you get them. You may have only five warriors active.
- These are the ones who are available for challenging and being challenged. You
- may change the order of your team at anytime with the appropriate menu option,
- but it won't count until after the turn is run for that time. Remember, only
- the first five warriors can fight! Your others will replace any active warrior
- who dies, in sequential order.
-
- MAKING CHALLENGES
- Choose the Challenge Other Warriors from the menu and you will be taken
- to the challenge menu. From there, you can make challenges, choose weapons for
- your warriors to defend with if challenged, view your challenges, remove your
- challenges, view the defending weapons of other warriors, and list all other
- warriors, including the NPC team (discussed later).
- When choosing defending weapons, you can choose from the 4 weapon types
- (sword, axe, mace, spear).
- When making challenges, you are shown the names of your active
- warriors. If you have at least 5 warriors on your team, your options will look
- something like this:
-
- Which one (A-E or ENTER to quit)?
-
- If you choose A, your first active warrior will appear and you type in
- who you want him to challenge. You only have to type in a partial name or the
- entire name if you wish. The program is designed with a name search string.
- If you can't remember how to spell a name, just type part of the name (i.e.
- "Shad" to find "The Shadowman") and all the warriors with those first few
- letters will come up and you either choose yes or no to challenge that warrior.
- But one basic rule applies: You may only challenge warriors with at least as
- many wins as yourself (excluding the NPC team and belted warriors).
-
- If you are wondering what weapons other warriors use you can choose the
- option that views other warriors defending weapon. This will ask you to type in
- the name of that warrior and it will show you what weapon he defended with last
- or if the manager has chosen a new weapon you will see that weapon. Defending
- weapons are also shown in the warrior ranking.
-
- Once you finish making challenges, you can browse through the menu
- choices or just quit and play again later hoping the Turn has ended. There
- will be a time limit to be determined by a Referee between each turn, and if
- you fail to make challenges before the deadline, the turn will be run anyway
- and your warriors will defend with whatever weapons they last used for defense.
- If a warrior who has no chosen defending weapon is challenged, he will fight
- with the challenger's weapon of choice. However, if neither has chosen a
- weapon, it will be randomly chosen right before fight time.
-
- THE NON-PLAYER-CHARACTER (NPC) TEAM
- Don't take this team lightly! These guys aren't for easy wins. Some
- of these guys are DEATH for sure...so if you like your character just a little
- bit, I wouldn't recommend challenging these guys, although there are a few NPCs
- that can be beaten and are more like Trainees. The NPCs get skills just like
- you, so keep that in mind when you fight them. There can be as many as 30 NPCs
- in the game, or none at all, depending upon the Ref. The NPCs will never make
- challenges and CAN be challenged by anyone regardless of their record. They
- can not be killed permanently.
-
- BASHES AND TOURNAMENTS
- A bash can be held for a couple of reasons. One, if there is a Belt up
- for grabs, a bash with one unbelted warrior from each team entering will have a
- shot at the belt. The warriors will be put in the arena and it will be a free-
- for-all, and the last warrior standing gets the belt. How would a belt become
- available for such a bash you ask? One way is a warrior that already has a
- belt (or an NPC who can't wear belts) may defeat someone else that has a belt
- and thus he loses his belt and it is up for grabs in a bash.
-
- Another reason for a bash is if a Referee feels like having one there
- will be one...maybe the Referee is in a bad mood and wants all belt holders to
- enter the bash just so they can lose their belts...HAHA...something like that,
- it just all depends on a referee. He may even have a Team bash, in which all
- the teams that want to join in can fight other teams (active warriors only)
- just to see who has the TRULY best TEAM.
-
- OTHER INFO
- If you choose the '[F]ight results' option from the main menu you can see
- what happened during the last arena combat. It will be displayed like this:
-
- PANTHER (2/4) KILLED bruster (0/1) with the axe.
- tarzan (3/9) defeated BUBBA (2/10) with the spear.
-
- Upper case means he is the challenger; lower case means he is the challengee.
- The first number in the parentheses is the number of hits the warrior did.
- The second number stands for the number of swings the warrior took at his
- opponent. In this example, Bubba challenged Tarzan. Tarzan hit 3 times out of
- 9 swings, defeating Bubba who only hit twice out of 10 swings.
-
- You can learn a lot from this menu choice!
-
- MESSAGE TO ANOTHER MANAGER
- This command allows you to write a personal message to any of the other
- managers in the game. They will be shown any such messages the next time they
- enter the game.
-
- LIST TEAM INFO
- This shows all the managers names, team names, and when they last played.
-
- INSTRUCTIONS
- This command will show you the instructions you're now reading.
-
- TEAM RANKING and WARRIOR RANKING
- This shows all the warriors (teams) ranked according to their win/loss record.
-
- Any managers not playing for one month will be automatically deleted.
-
- By pressing the CTRL-S, you may pause the screen.
- By pressing the CTRL-C, you may abort during lists.
-
- If you are planning to go out of town, or for some reason you can't play for a
- month or longer, ask the sysop to suspend your team and your team will be
- deactivated until you request your team to be unsuspended. By suspending your
- team, you are taking your warriors out of the arena and put on vacation until
- you wish them to return (your team will not be deleted for not playing for a
- month).
