  5. What is RExL ?
  6. --------------

  8.      RExL is  a fourth generation language  product for PC-compatible
  9.      computers. RExL contains a dBase compatible database module with
  10.      full  indexing capabilities,  a comprehensive  screen and  forms
  11.      designer,  a  folding  text  editor  and  a debugger and runtime
  12.      module.  It  is  aimed  at  people  who  want to create powerful
  13.      applications,  with  a  consistent  user  interface,  easily and
  14.      simply.

  16.      RExL has  its own internal  language (with over  180 functions),
  17.      similar  to BASIC,  which is  linked in  a unique  way with  the
  18.      concept of  rules and logic to  make programming more intuitive.
  19.      The  full  screen  debugger  is  based  upon  industry  standard
  20.      products  and features  step, trace,  watch, evaluate,  animate,
  21.      breakpoints and many more useful commands.

  24. Why should I use RExL ?

  27.      RExL  scores  over  other  applications development environments
  28.      because of  the intimate way  in which the  editor, the language
  29.      and the screens and forms designer are linked.

  31.      It allows  you to use  industry compatible data  and index files
  32.      and  to swap  information with  systems such  as Clipper, dBase,
  33.      FoxPro  and  all  other  software  tools  adhering  to the dBase
  34.      standard.

  36.      There's  also  a  postfix  compiler  module,  available  in  the
  37.      registered version, which can  produce standalone DOS executable
  38.      files which  run two to  four times as  fast as the  interpreted
  39.      code used in standard runtime/debugger module.

  42. Why is this product distributed via shareware ?
  43. -----------------------------------------------

  45.      RExL is shareware which means that we do not spend large sums of
  46.      money  promoting our  products via  advertising. We're therefore
  47.      able to keep  costs down and to concentrate on  what we do best:
  48.      writing excellent software.
  49.  
  50.      We  also believe  that software  should be  sold like  any other
  51.      commodity,  where users  can `test-drive'  something before they
  52.      buy  it.  There's  nothing  more  maddening  than spending a few
  53.      hundred dollars on a package before you discover that it doesn't
  54.      do what you thought it did.

  94.      When you copy RExL, please make sure that you copy all the files
  95.      listed above.  Nobody gains if  they receive the  editor without
  96.      the  runtime,  the  documentation  without  the  executables  or
  97.      whatever!

  99.      The  files APPS.EXE  and  DOCS.EXE  are self  extracting archive
  100.      files. You'll need about 500k  free for extracting the 250 pages
  101.      of documentation plus an additional  195k for the help file. The
  102.      sample files require about 100k of disk space. The entire set up
  103.      requires just over one megabyte.

  105.      The setup in this archive file allows you to create and run
  106.      applications in RExL with no restrictions in the code. You're
  107.      getting the full editor and runtime-debugger. When you register
  108.      your copy of RExL with us, we'll send you the latest version of
  109.      RExL, the extra utilities and a printed and indexed manual. Note
  110.      that you cannot distribute applications written in RExL without
  111.      being a registered user (you'll need the runtime module or
  112.      postfix compiler, apart from any legal obligations).

  135. Note to users of Version 2.00 :
  136. -------------------------------

  138.      If you have used RExL version 2.00 and created applications with
  139.      it, then your applications will have to be exported from version
  140.      2.00  using the  ASCII|Save file  menu option  and then reloaded
  141.      into  version 2.10  using the  ASCII|Load file  option. This  is
  142.      because of updates to the internal listing format.
