- PHONEWIN
- Version 2.1
- by Bill Schaper
- 5/02/91
-
-
- PURPOSE:
-
- Phone (previous versions) were written because many current
- address/dialer databases wouldn't support my Courier HST 9600 baud modem ...
- they just wouldn't dial it. I also do not care for complicated <ALT> <CTRL>
- key sequences. This is a simple straight forward database/dialer.
-
- ACKNOWLEDGMENTS:
- Special thanks to Thomas G. Hanlin III for the windowing routines.
- Thanks to Jim Landers, author of Postcard, for inspiration and support.
-
- Phonewin is a SHAREWARE program. If you decide to use the program after
- a 21 day trial period, register it by sending in a filled in REGISTER.TXT
- form (included in this zipfile) or by send your name, mailing address and
- required disk size and $10.00. to:

-
- SETUP:
-
- PHONEWIN requires virtually NO SPECIAL setup. The default data file
- (Card file) is ADDRESS.DAT. The default COMM port is COM 1. The COM port
- will need to be changed to COM 2 if that is your communications port.
- PHONE does NOT support COM 3 or COM 4 directly. The DEFAULT dialing mode is
- TONE dialing. Change to PULSE dialing in the UTILITIES menu. PHONEWIN
- REQUIRES a modem that supports at least 1200 baud.
- PHONEWIN will run under Microsoft Windows (tm), however you may find it
- needlessly slow and the display colors may be somewhat hard to read. IF
- PHONEWIN.EXE IS RUN IN A WINDOWS ENVIRONMENT YOU MUST MODIFY THE *.PIF FILE
- USING THE PIF EDITOR TO THE CORRECT DIRECTORY IN WHICH PHONEWIN.EXE RESIDES.
-
- The data file ADDRESS.DAT should be present in the PHONEWIN directory
- (or disk). The file PHONE.CFG contains information regarding the COM port,
- dialing mode and data file and should also be in the default directory.
-
- OPERATION:
-
- To begin PHONEWIN just type phonewin. The default COM port is COM 1.
- If your modem is connected to COM 2, select CHANGE COM PORT from
- the UTILITY submenu. WARNING - ERROR CORRECTION WILL NOT DETECT ANOTHER
- DEVICE ON COM1 (ie .. MOUSE) ... THE PROGRAM JUST WILL NOT DIAL.
-
- Print routines are located in the UTILITY submenu. They allow
- printing of standard 3 X 15/16 tractor feed, 1 wide mailing labels.
- with or without phone numbers. There is also a routine to print
- all names and fields and Rolodex Cards.
-
- The default card file is ADDRESS.DAT. You may chose any legitimate
- DOS filename for the data file name. To change the data file select
- CHANGE DATA FILE from the UTILITY submenu. The file you name will then
- become the default database file.
-
- The default dialing speed is 1200 baud. This works fine with the 9600
- and 2400 baud modems I have used it on. NO BAUD RATE change is sent to
- the modem. The default initialization string is ATZ and cannot be
- changed.
-
- MAINMENU:
-
- The menu on the main display SELECTS the entry to DIAL, EDIT, DELETE,
- or PRINT by using the <UP ARROW> or <DOWN ARROW>. To rapidly move
- through the entries use the FIND routine or <RIGHT ARROW>/<LEFT ARROW>.
- The <PAGE UP> or <PAGE DOWN> keys select the next page of entries. The
- HOME and END keys advance to the first or last record.
-
- MANUAL DIAL will dial any number that does not exist in the
- address file. After the number is dialed ANY KEY may be pressed
- to send ATH (hang up) to the modem AFTER THE TELEPHONE HANDSET is
- picked up. This same sequence should be followed if DIAL is used.
- MANUAL DIAL does NOT check for the proper sequence of numbers or
- characters so it may be used to send control codes to your modem.
-
- I have tried to include enough "error traps" to catch keystrokes
- that are not displayed ... ie pressing an Z when no selection Z
- exists. Some of these areas may still exist, though.
-
- UTILITY MENU
- Access the UTILITY section from the Main menu by pressing "U"
- from the main menu
-
- The ADD function will add a card to the END of the current
- address file. SORTING is NOT automatic! COMPANY ONLY names should
- be input into the LAST NAME field only. NOTE ... A BLANK LAST NAME
- (OR COMPANY NAME) WILL NOT ADD THE ENTRY TO THE CARD FILE ! THERE
- MUST BE AN ENTRY IN THE LAST NAME FIELD.
-
- DELETE, MODIFY or EDIT operates on the Current entry only!
-
- Utility functions include:
- Sorting of the database
- Printing of mailing labels with or without phone numbers
- Printing of Rolodex cards (small size - tractor feed)
- Modify current (selected) record.
- Delete selected record.
- Add a Record.
- TOGGLE Tone/Pulse dialing
- TOGGLE COM port ( 1 or 2 )
- Select different Address file
-
-
