  2.     Welcome to HELPD v1.2 !
  3.  
  4.     HELPD is a pc-based program that allows you to centralize your
  5. critical help desk functions such as PC problem logging, user questions and
  6. answers, quick access to phone numbers of technical support staff and much
  7. more, all in a user-friendly environment.
  8.  
  9.     Version 1.2 allows the user to print out to a on-line printer, the
  10. PROBLEM.LOG file(option #7 of main menu) and also allows the user to append
  11. to the site's phone/contact list(PHONE.LST). There is now a new field called
  12. "TRACKING NUMBER", which you can use to maintain tracking records for each
  13. problem call, by giving each problem/user call a tracking number. This number
  14. can be tailored to your site's specific numbering system.

  16. This program (README.EXE) will create two data files that HELPD.EXE uses,
  17. called PHONE.LST and PROBLEM.LOG. These are the phone/contact list
  18. and the problem log(both user and pc combined) respectively.

  20. PLEASE BE SURE TO KEEP PROBLEM.LOG, PHONE.LST and HELPD.EXE ALL IN THE
  21. SAME DIRECTORY OR ON THE SAME DISK. DO NOT WRITE PROTECT THE DISK, IF THE
  22. THREE FILES ARE BEGIN KEPT ON FLOPPY DISK !

  24. Finally, one of the options that HELPD has, is to stay memory resident
  25. so that you can run DOS commands or other programs. When using this option,
  26. please be careful to return to the directory(or subdirectory) that the
  27. three files(HELPD.EXE, PHONE.LST and PROBLEM.LOG) reside. If HELPD does
  28. not find these files upon returning from DOS, then HELPD will terminate.

  65. 1. Allow you to create independent user and problem logs on disk, called
  66. USER.LOG and PROBLEM.LOG.
  67. 2. Allow you to enter the name and phone number of person the problem/user
  68. log was given to, to keep track of who the problem(s) were assigned to...
  69. 3. Keep track of repeat pc problems for a particular pc and also keep track
  70. of repeat questions from the same user...This would indicate a need for 
  71. proper or additional training.
  72. 5. Allow you to modify the user and problem logs, to adjust them for problems
  73. that have been resolved or need additional looking after.
  74. 6. Allow you to create and modify your own helpful hints/questions and answers
  75. file(called HINTS.LST) to make this site independent.

  84. a new PROBLEM.LOG and PHONE.LST files each time it is run and will write
  85. over/delete any current PHONE.LST and PROBLEM.LOG file(s)...
