  5. ECHO .      Welcome to The Home Budget Management System... a financial record 
  6. ECHO .  keeping and reporting program.  The HBMS package contains an install 
  7. ECHO .  program, a setup program, and full documentation (on disk).  Also 
  8. ECHO .  included are sample data files, and a unique "Test Drive" document which 
  9. ECHO .  can help introduce you to HBMS and what it has to offer.  With the Test 
  10. ECHO .  Drive text and the sample data, you will be able to see the very 
  11. ECHO .  extensive reporting capabilities of HBMS without having to accumulate 
  12. ECHO .  your own data.

  14. ECHO .     The following files make up the HBMS package:

  24. ECHO .   If any of these files are missing, please contact the author.

  30. ECHO .  IMPORTANT:  HBMS is being distributed with some of its files contained in 
  31. ECHO .  a compressed format.  DO NOT try to run HBMS from the distribution disk.  
  32. ECHO . 
  33. ECHO .  For your convenience there is an INSTALL program which will install all 
  34. ECHO .  the needed files to your disk and optionally print the documentation.  
  35. ECHO .  Take the original distribution disk and place it in your floppy drive.  
  36. ECHO .  Type "INSTALL" and hit the ENTER key.  If you are not installing to a 
  37. ECHO .  hard drive, have a blank formatted floppy ready.  If you are using 360k 
  38. ECHO .  floppy disks, you will need an extra one for the documentation files. 
  39. ECHO . 
  40. ECHO .  The INSTALL program will optionally create a subdirectory on your hard 
  41. ECHO .  drive for you.  If you have been using an earlier version of HBMS, 
  42. ECHO .  specify the subdirectory which contains those files.  The new program 
  43. ECHO .  files will replace the old ones.  YOUR DATA FILES WILL NOT BE HARMED AND 
  44. ECHO .  ARE STILL COMPATIBLE.

  46. ECHO .  After INSTALL, be sure to store the distribution disk in a safe place.

  55. ECHO .     HBMS contains many useful features, and can do an excellent job of 
  56. ECHO .  recording and reporting your financial transactions.  However in order 
  57. ECHO .  to use the program successfully, the documentation is a MUST READ affair!  
  58. ECHO . 
  59. ECHO .  If you are new to HBMS, I strongly recommend that you take the "Test 
  60. ECHO .  Drive".  Print the TESTDRIV.DOC as a minimum.  (The INSTALL program can 
  61. ECHO .  print this document for you.)   It will give you a feel for how easy it 
  62. ECHO .  is to enter data into the system, but remember that the Test Drive is not 
  63. ECHO .  a complete tutorial on HBMS. 
  64. ECHO . 
  65. ECHO .  The sample data provides many examples, and can be a valuable aid when 
  66. ECHO .  you are not quite sure how to handle something.  It also serves as a 
  67. ECHO .  ready made practice budget system.  Experiment with it while reading the 
  68. ECHO .  documentation.  When you run HBMS, specify "84" as the "Year of ACCOUNT 
  69. ECHO .  DATA:".  The first dozen or so transactions provide examples of most of 
  70. ECHO .  the entries you are likely to need.

  72. ECHO .  NOTE!  Previous users of HBMS should check the WHATSNEW.DOC file for some 
  73. ECHO .  important changes in version 4.3.

  80. ECHO .       HBMS is being distributed as a ShareWare product.  That means you 
  81. ECHO .  can "try before you buy".  It is a fully functional program, NOT a 
  82. ECHO .  limited demo.  If you like HBMS and continue to use it, you must 
  83. ECHO .  register.  Complete details are available in the HBMS.DOC file.  There is 
  84. ECHO .  a convenient order form provided for registration.  Just copy the file 
  85. ECHO .  ORDERFRM.DOC to your printer, or let the INSTALL program print it for 
  86. ECHO .  you.  I encourage you to share copies of this program with others.  If 
  87. ECHO .  you have experience with bulletin boards, you can also upload it to your 
  88. ECHO .  local BBS (name it HBMS43.ZIP).  However, make sure all the files listed
  89. ECHO .  above are included in the package.  Feel free to call and check on the
