  3. Updating FoxPro by installing patches posted by Fox Software at
  4. Compuserve has become such a confusing exercise requiring you to be a
  5. brain surgeon or rocket scientist. The problem is there are so many
  6. bloody files due to things like Standard, Extended, Single-user, LAN,
  7. distribution kit, etc. etc. As if that were enough, Fox made things more
  8. complex by having two "baseline" products--July 12 & July 19.
  9. Consequently you needed a different patch depending on which baseline
  10. you had. Moreover, in the past, you had to reinstall the distribution
  11. kit after you apply the patch.

  13. Beginning with Patch 4 (to bring FP 2.0 to the Aug 29 version) Fox gives
  14. you a utility program PATCH.EXE which reads a supplied small .dbf
  15. (PATCH.DBF) and the various FoxPro programs you have installed, then
  16. tells you what patch files you need to bring your version to the current
  17. version. What you should do then is first download this ZIP file (I call
  18. FPPAT4.ZIP) containing PATCH.EXE/PATCH.DBF, then run

  22. in your FP subdirectory.  See READ.ME file on this .zip for more info. I
  23. found that I didn't need to reinstall any distribution kit files over
  24. any files I had.  BTW, CHNG4.LOG in this file summarizes what had been
  25. fixed in the 8/29 version.
