-
- The Book Shelf is a simple data base program designed to provide an
- easy and convenient way of cataloging books, magazines, publications,
- etc.
-
- No attempt has been made to emulate formal library practices such as
- using the Library of Congress or Dewey-Decimal Systems. The program
- provides features such as:
-
-
- * Adding, editing and deleting books;
-
- * Printing book description records or just titles;
-
- * Viewing book description records;
-
- * Listing authors, book titles, series names, publ
-
- * Customizable printer definition and selectable print size.
-
-
- The Book Shelf requires a minimum of 256k of available RAM to execute
- properly. It runs under MS-DOS 3.x or higher on the IBM PC, XT, AT
- or compatible, and may be used with color (recommended) or monochrome
- displays.
-
- It is recommended that a hard drive be used for the benefits of speed
- and storage capacity, although the program will work on a floppy based
- system.
-
- Virtually any printer may be used. The PRINTER.DEF file that is provided
- should work with most printers. In the event that the printed copy is
- not correct, a function under the OPTIONS menu allows the user to customize
- the definition file.
-
- When the program is first installed the following files should be present:
-
-
- BOOKS.EXE, the main program file;
-
- PRINTER.DEF, the default printer definition file;
-
- README, general program information and registration form.
-
-
- To run The Book Shelf simply type BOOKS <CR>. There are no other
- installation procedures required for this product.
-
- The top of the screen is called the COMMAND LINE. It contains a series
- of menu names; each one with a highlighted initial. To select a menu
- simply type the ALT key at the same time as the initial of the menu
- you wish. A menu will appear on the screen containing a list of functions
- for that menu. Using the horizontal arrow keys will allow flipping
- through each of the menus.
-
- A menu function may be selected in one of two ways. First, by using
- the up and down arrow keys, move the cursor bar until it rests on top
- of the desired function and then press the ENTER key. The second method
- is to simply type the highlighted character for the desired function.
- Each menu groups together related functions such as editing, printing,
- viewing, etc.
-
- For an in depth discussion of the functions in this program, a printed
- reference manual is available upon registration - along with any
- technical assistance that may be required.
-
- Please remember that this is a Shareware product and as such it would
- be much appreciated that, if you should find this program useful, you
- would register with the author. I would be interested in hearing
- your comments or suggestions concerning any aspect of The Book Shelf that
- would help improve this product to meet your needs.
