  12. This is the latest revision of my TTY Print! program.  (TTYPRT originally was 
  13. written by Mike Orlowicz and called 'Le Message'.)  Significant changes for 
  14. this new version are the addition of a mini-editor, external (user-definable) 
  15. signature blocks, color, and rewritten help screens.  Version 3.6 added an
  16. OCR-A softfont for LaserJet and compatible printers.  (No cartridge needed!)

  19. Printers Supported:
  20.   HP LaserJet or compatible w/font cartridge for OCR/A
  21.   HP LaserJet or compatible capable of accepting HP-format 'soft' fonts
  22.   NEC SpinWriter with OCR/A thimble and carbon ribbon ('multi-strike' is ok)
  23.   QMS Kiss laser printer w/font cartridge for OCR/A (Beta version)
  24.   ALPS P2000 with OCR/A font cartridge and carbon ribbon (Beta version)

  27. Features:

  29. - Reads message text input from external file or directly from keyboard.
  30. - Outputs in TTY (DD173/2) format to supported printers with OCR/A font
  31.       capability.  (See list above.)
  32. - Accepts filename either on command line or prompted.
  33. - 'Raw' WordStar files (up to version 6.0) are handed correctly.
  34.       (strips high bits, control characters, and dot commands).
  35. - Checks if external file was formatted correctly - 68 maximum chars/line.
  36. - Accepts TTY input directly from keyboard via a internal mini-editor.
  37. - Mini-editor has common word-processor features: cursor movements, auto-wrap,
  38.       find text, delete/recall line, and save/read file.
  39. - Mini-editor automatically loads template file, if it exists
  40. - Fully prompting for header and footer information.
  41. - Defaults on <enter> entries and does the 'right thing'.
  42. - Gets date from computer, manual entry not needed.
  43. - Start and stop printing on any page.
  44. - Pauses for paper change between pages.
  45. - 'Code entry' signature blocks taken from external file.
  46. - HP LaserJet printing parameters - allows printing position changes for
  47.      different lots of DD173 forms.
  48. - HP LaserJet version capable of downloading OCR-A soft font (supplied)
  49. - Optionally, prints MFR after message.
  50. - WordStar and ASCII template available for message creation.
  51. - Compiled, stand-alone program.  Will run from WordStar's 'R' command 
  52.      if adequate memory is available.

  86. Quick and Dirty Installation:
  87.  
  88.    Copy the files AUTOLOAD.MSG, HELP_MSG.OVL, SIG_BLKS.DAT, and TTYPRT-?.EXE
  89.    into some subdirectory on the normal search path:  To display a list of 
  90.    directories on your normal search path, give the command 'Path'.  Pick any 
  91.    directory listed.  Recommend the /BIN or /DOS directory be used.  Also copy
  92.    OCR-A.FNT if a LaserJet or compatible will be used.

  94.    A minimum installation needs only the particular TTYPRT-?.EXE for your
  95.    printer.  The other files add enhancements:  SIG_BLKS.DAT for pre-defined
  96.    signature blocks, HELP_MSG.OVL for on-line help, and AUTOLOAD.MSG for
  97.    a mini-editor pre-defined message form or 'template'.  None of these are
  98.    required to run the basic program.

  103.    Run either TTYPRT-L, TTYPRT-N, TTYPRT-K, TTYPRT-A as appropriate
  104.    (Type 'TTYPRT-L<enter>', 'TTYPRT-N<enter>', 'TTYPRT-N<enter>', or 
  105.       'TTYPRT-K<enter>' to a DOS prompt.)
  106.    Follow directions.

  108.    (Note: you must download the OCR-A softfont to LaserJets before printing if
  109.    not using a OCR-A cartridge.  This font will remain resident in printer 
  110.    until turned off.)
