- WELCOME TO THE FASTZIP MAIL PROGRAM
- By
- Westcoast Software
-
-
- The United States Postal Department is now using Optical Scanners to
- speed up their mail processing. Their scanners now read the Zip Code
- you put with the address and their own equipment prints a Postnet
- Bar Code on the envelope. This requires a two step operation for
- them. If the Postnet Bar Code is already on the envelope it requires
- only a one step operation. The Postal Department is now offering a
- Discount on First Class Mail that already has the Bar Code printed
- on it. The present equipment available to do this costs $4000. This
- evaluation program will print the Postnet Bar Code on Envelopes and
- Post Cards. Shipping Labels and Address Labels when you Register. At
- the present time the Bar Code MUST be printed in a specific area on
- the Envelope,(3/6/91). The Postal Department estimates that by the
- fall of 1991 the Bar Code can be printed any place on the envelope
- and their optical scanners will still read the code. According to
- the Postal Officials you can now use Address Labels with the Bar
- Code on them to qualify for discounts. The Bar Code must be printed
- above or be the beginning line in the address. This is because their
- optical scanners are still reading the Zip Code on the address and
- the Bar Code printed just below the address on Address Labels would
- confuse the scanners. Notice the Mail you are receiving now. Most
- Companies are printing the Bar Code as the First Line of the Address
- especially the Credit Card Companies. This also enables Statements
- and Invoices to have the Bar Code on them for Window Envelopes.
- (Check with your Shareware Dealer for our Fastzip Statement/Invoice
- evaluation Disk) When you register for FASTZIP MAIL it will include
- the Invoice/Statement Program.
-
- You may have to be mailing 250 to 300 letters at a time to qualify
- for a discount. Check with your Postal Department for the latest
- information. If you qualify using the Postnet Bar Code you can mail
- your letters for 23.3 cents instead of 29 cents. According to an
- article in PC Magazine you can save even more if you pre-sort. Even
- if you do not qualify for a discount your letters will be handled
- more efficently, accurately and faster with the Postnet Bar Code
- Printed on them .
