Transcription: Water and beer were the most common drinks in ancient Egypt. Water from the Nile was plentiful. Each family kept a large urn of water in their house. Beer was a common drink for adults. To make beer, Egyptians allowed barley to begin to sprout. Then they baked it into loaves of bread. These loaves were crumbled and soaked in water with more grain. This mixture fermented for three days before the beer was strained and bottled. Egyptian beer was weaker than the beer made today. Wine was rare, drunk only by the wealthy at banquets. It was made from grapes, date palms, and date palm sap.
