Transcription: One of the best ways to evaluate your child's writing skill development is what schools call portfolio assessment. Simply put, this means collecting samples of your child's work over time. For example, encourage your child to write often, but save a story or other writing sample once a month or every other month for a year. You will be amazed at the growth you see. Use of punctuation, length of sentences, use of dialogue, blog, descriptive adjectives, humor, and so on. Once in a while, talk to your child about all of the great growth in writing ability that you are seeing.
