  1.             TIPS FOR READING TAPES WITH TAPE2TAP

  4.     TAPE2TAP is a bit intricate program, and got several deficiencies.
  5. In despite of that, it works perfectly with tapes on good conditions. And
  6. I'm very proud of it, despite it's limitations, since if you remember
  7. how dificult it was to load programs on the real machine, imagine doing it
  8. on a PC....
  9.  
  10.     First of all I recommend you to use a stereo equipment of good
  11. quality with a very low noise ratio. Of course immediatly after reading the
  12. header, the message program: Bytes:, or whatever, must appear.

  14.     It's good sign if you see the stripes, it means you are getting data.
  15. Unfortanetly, the volume requires a bit of experimentation. Try it a about
  16. 3/4 below the maximum, or try it at the maximum, and going a bit down after
  17. each try. If all fails, try another tape.

  19.     Please, note that TAPE2TAP will also read programs saved with strange 
  20. schemes, devised for figthing piracy at the old days, but the emulator can't 
  21. cope with this at the moment. At my home, I suceed to read about half of my 
  22. tape collection, but maybe you're not so lucky.

  24.     I must add that trying to read Speccy tapes is a very  frustating 
  25. experience. You you really want a game, I suggest you first search for it on 
  26. the net, and on a last resource try to read it from a tape.

  28.     Finally, SoundBlaster for input maybe more convenient, but will have
  29. better results with the LPT port.
