- PhantomScreen
-
- The following Command Line Options were added to PhantomScreen
- after the manual had gone to press:
-
- USING EMS/XMS MEMORY:
-
- PhantomScreen now defaults to using Extended Memory (XMS)
- instead of Expanded Memory (EMS). If you would rather use
- Expanded Memory (EMS), start PhantomScreen with the /E option.
-
- Example: PHANTOM /E
-
- Since Phantom now defaults to Extended Memory (XMS), the /X
- option is no longer required and has been removed.
-
-
- SPEEDING UP PHANTOM:
-
- The /B option was added to speed up saving and loading the
- background screen. The extra speed is achieved by storing the
- background image in Expanded Memory (EMS) instead of the hard
- drive.
-
- Example PHANTOM /B
-
-
- USING PHANTOM WITH VESA VIDEO CARDS:
-
- If you have a super VGA video card that is not supported by
- Phantom, but is VESA compatible, try using the /V option. If
- your VESA card requires a software driver TSR, remember to
- load it before loading Phantom.
-
- Example: PHANTOM /V
-
-
- TURNING OFF PORT CHECKING:
-
- Phantom periodically checks to see if your printer and/or
- modem are active to avoid interrupting telecommunications or
- printing operations. On rare occasions this may interfere with
- certain system configurations. The /P option was added to
- Phantom for just this situation. Most people should never need
- to use this option.
-
- Example: PHANTOM /P
-
-
- SETTING PHANTOMSCREEN'S VIDEO MODE:
-
- Phantom will try to automatically detect the system's video card.
- If it incorrectly identifies the card, you may manually set the
- video mode using the /G# option. Most people should never need
- to use this option.
-
- 0 - CGA (320x200x4) 5 - EGA (640x350x16)
- 1 - CGA (640x200x2) 6 - VGA (640x480x2)
- 2 - EGA (320x200x16) 7 - VGA (640x480x16)
- 3 - EGA (640x200x16) 8 - VGA (320x200x256)
- 4 - EGA (640x350x2) 9 - Hercules (720x348x2)
-
- Example: PHANTOM /G1 ( Sets Phantom to Pop-Up in CGA mode )
-
-
- LOADING DIFFERENT NETWORK SETUP FILES:
-
- Normally PhantomScreen stores its setup information in the
- PHANTOM.DAT file in the Phantom directory. This file contains
- information about the default settings such as which screen
- saver is active, speed and color options. In a multi-user
- environment with PCs of vastly different configurations it is
- necessary to specify setup files for different users and/or
- different machine types. If a different setup file is used then
- it must be the first parameter passed to Phantom and it must also
- have a .DAT extension.
-
- Example: PHANTOM F:\USERS\CINDY.DAT
-
-
- SYSTEM CONFLICTS:
-
- If you are experiencing a hardware or software conflict while
- using PhantomScreen, you may want to try the /D option. This
- option tells Phantom to use Disk Memory instead of Extended
- Memory. This is a common cure for many conflicts that can
- occur when using a variety of hardware and software.
-
- Example: PHANTOM /D
-
- NOTE: Some system conflicts may occur if DOS runs out of file
- handles. Try increasing the FILES= line in your
- CONFIG.SYS file.
