- P PKZ110.EXE from PKWARE - Shareware from the USA
- P
- P PKZ110.EXE is a self-extracting ZIP file. It consists of several programs
- P and documents packed into just one file. When run, it automatically
- P extracts the various files on to your disc. The two main programs are PKZIP
- P and PKUNZIP. PKZIP will squeeze your programs and data into much less
- P space than normal. Also, several individual files can be compressed into just
- P one ZIP file. PKZIP will save floppy and hard disc space, and also your
- P telephone bill if you transfer files by modem. See the file ORDER.DOC
- P for details of how to register this great shareware program and MANUAL.DOC
- P for 140k of documentation! The other programs on this disc have been
- P compressed into ZIPs so you will need PKUNZIP to extract them. See below for
- P details. If you have a single drive use an option for drive B and follow
- P the prompts.

- P KEY 1 To unpack PKZ110.EXE to a blank formatted disc in drive B:

- P
- P LIST73D from Vernon D. Buerg (USA)
- P
- P LIST is a text viewer that can replace the Dos TYPE command. You may scroll
- P through text files a line or a page at a time, print selected parts and
- P search for words or phrases. Many users rename it to T.COM or similar and
- P put it in their Path (see your Dos manual for details). Then you can
- P type "T filename" anywhere on your system to read a text file.
- P
- P LIST73D.ZIP consists of the three latest versions of LIST. There is a small
- P one that runs in about 30k, a regular version that runs in about 80k, and the
- P Plus version which has many extra features, for instance scrolling filename
- P selection and telephone dialling via a modem. See LIST.DOC for details and
- P info on making a contribution to the author Vern Buerg. He suggests $20.
- P We're sure you'll agree it's worth at least that.
- P
- P To unpack LIST73D.ZIP copy it on to another disc along with PKUNZIP.EXE.
- P Then use the command "PKUNZIP LIST73D". See main menu option 1 for
- P PKUNZIP details.

- P SHEZ from California Software Design - Shareware from the USA
- P
- P SHEZ is a shell program to make viewing and working with ZIP files user
- P friendly. SHEZ integrates with PKZIP/PKUNZIP and LIST (supplied on this disc)
- P to provide a comprehensive archive manager. You may find the command line
- P options used with PKZIP/PKUNZIP a little confusing. SHEZ gives you access to
- P all these options in an easy-to-use menu format. It will also drive PKUNZIP
- P and LIST to view text inside ZIP files.
- P
- P SHEZ will work with other file compression programs such as PKPAK/PKUNPAK,
- P LHARC, ZOO and ARC. SHEZ also has an option to test ZIP files for viruses
- P using SCAN featured on last month's disc.
- P
- P To unpack SHEZ541.ZIP you should copy it onto another disc along with
- P PKUNZIP.EXE and use the command "PKUNZIP SHEZ541". See main menu option 1 for
- P PKUNZIP details. Once unpacked read SHEZ.REG for information on registering
- P this program and supporting the shareware concept. Full instructions are
- P in the manual file SHEZ.DOC.

- P including ZIP and most other formats.
- P
- P FV can be used in conjunction with LIST PLUS (provided on this disc -
- P LIST73D) to display a text file within a ZIP without unpacking it
- P first. Please refer to the file LIST.DOC for full details. Also see
- P the DOC file for info on how to make a contribution to the author.
- P
- P You can use FV.COM to view the contents of any of the ZIPs on this disc.
- P Type "FV filename" to do this. To read the DOC file you will have to
- P unpack FVDOC.ZIP by copying it and PKUNZIP.EXE on to another disc and

- P CHECKING THE FILES ON THIS DISC
- P
- P ALL the files on this disc will be verified using a CRC (cyclic redundancy
- P check) to make sure that they are as they left us and haven't been corrupted
- P in any way. This check will take a short while.
- P
- P Each file will be listed and the comment "passed" added if everything is
- P correct. If a file has been altered in ANY way the comment "failed" will be
- P added. If any extra files have been put on the disc, they will be listed
- P as "not expected". If any errors are detected they will be reported, again
- P with an "Error(s) detected - continue (Y/N) ?" message. If this happens, you
- P would normally key N.
- P
- P The first time you run this disc, after adding a write protect tab, use
- P this CRC check to ensure the disc is perfect. If you get a CRC failure as
- P detailed above please return the disc to the duplicators at the address
- P shown in the magazine.
- P
- P Remember that on subsequent checks you will get CRC failures if you alter
- P the disc in any way. Keeping a write protect tab on the disc at all times
- P is the best way to ensure you don't alter anything.
