- This file contains extra information about SHADOW not included in the
- Handbook.
-
- Lotus 123 Users
- ---------------
-
- Included on the disk is a replay of a short 123 session .The file
- 123.SHD is a recording taken whilst creating a small spreadsheet named
- 123EX.WK1.To replay the file start with a blank spreadsheet in cell A1
- and load SHADOW up with 123.SHD.Replay from the start of the file. The
- final product is also on the disk.
- Note
- ----
- Quattro users can also successfully replay this file as long you load
- up with the Lotus menu tree.If you're starting from a hard disk ( C: )
- type :- Q/dQ123.DEF
- You will have to press the Escape key before answering the abort/retry
- question if you don't have a printer attached.
-
- Sidekick and Sidekick Plus
- --------------------------
-
- Users of either of these programs will probably be aware of Sidekick's
- preference to being loaded last if used with other resident programs.
- However with SHADOW you have a choice.
- If you load SHADOW before Sidekick it will function as normal ie.it
- will be able to record and replay Sidekick sessions as normal. If you
- load SHADOW after Sidekick it will work OK with other programs but
- will ignore Sidekick completely. So if you are recording a Lotus 123
- session and dissappear into Sidekick to make notes etc. recording will
- pause whilst this is happening and resume when you return to 123.When
- you replay your session only Lotus will replay. This feature allows you
- to replay the main application only.
-
- Keyboard drivers
- ----------------
-
- If you use the DOS keyboard drivers such as KEYBUK.COM then you must
- load these before SHADOW or else it won't work at all.
-
- Keyboard enhancers
- ------------------
-
- Some keyboard enhancing programs extend the 15 stroke buffer that DOS
- gives you. Many of them do this by rerouting keys straight into their
- buffer. However SHADOW writes to the DOS buffer during replay which can
- cause problems if another similar buffer exists. Normal replays should
- be no problem , the trouble occurs when you are repeatedly pressing +
- or - keys to change the speed. The keyboard enhancer will try and take
- these keystrokes and place them in it's own buffer. The result of this
- conflict in most cases seems to be that although you don't lose or
- gain keystrokes ,you sometimes get them back in a different order to
- which they were entered ! Once again the main problem is speed. If you
- don't fill up the buffer the keyboard enhancer won't start trying to
- remove the keys and all will be well.Slow down.
-
- Copying SHADOW files with DOS
- -----------------------------
-
- SHADOW replay files are written in normal DOS format so can be copied
- erased and modified like any other.Modification with DEBUG can be
- carried out to either change the file length or even alter the
- contents although the latter should be attempted very carefully.
- However using the DOS copy command to combine SHADOW files sometimes
- serves a useful purpose. You may want to combine two sessions recorded
- seperately as FILE1.SHD and FILE2.SHD.
- This can easily be accomplished by the DOS command :-
-
- COPY /B FILE1.SHD+FILE2.SHD FILE3.SHD
-
- You must remember to include the /b (binary) option or else the SHADOW
- file that is produced may not be of the type that can be understood
- which will result in an unpredictable replay.
