  16. This version of the Indeo Video R3.2 driver is an update to Indeo
  17. Video R3.1 and Video for Windows V1.1. It provides:
  18.    
  19.    * Improved visual quality.  There is significantly more foreground 
  20.      and background detail for most sequences, particularly at 15 fps 
  21.      with data rates of 135KB/sec or higher.
  22.    * Improved video playback performance at low data rates.
  23.    * Improved 16-bit image quality and playback performance.
  24.    * Improved audio playback at low data rates.
  25.    * Compression and decompression of images up to 640x480 size in
  26.      4-pixel increments.  Note: 640x480x10 video with a 240KB/sec transfer 
  27.      rate, has been measured to play back at close to 10 frames per second.
  28.    * Improved software encoder performance (2 to 5 sec/frame on a Pentium 
  29.      processor system).

  34. Indeo(TM) Video R3.2  -- V3.22.01.30 incorporates the new Indeo 
  35.              Video R3.2 software codec that produces
  36.              the highest quality video for software
  37.              playback on Intel microprocessor based
  38.              desktop computers.

  41. Indeo(TM) Video Raw   -- V1.10.1.4 incorporates the raw/YVU9
  42.              codec.

  45. Indeo(TM) Video R2.1  -- V2.17.003 incorporates a decompressor only.
  46.              It plays back files created with the older
  47.              R2.1 codec.

  50. System.ini Entries:
  51. -------------------
  52. The Setup program installs the Indeo video drivers along with the
  53. latest Video for Windows runtime.  It places the following entries in
  54. the system.ini file for the Indeo video drivers:

  62. Previously, the recommended system.ini entries looked as follows:

  66. VIDC.YVU9=indeov.drv
  67. VIDC.IV31=indeov.drv

  69. Indeov.drv was an "umbrella" driver that used a text file called
  70. indeo.ini to point to the various Indeo video drivers.  The indeo.ini
  71. file had the following entries:

  75. [IV31]
  76. DEC=ir30.dll
  77. [RT21]
  78. DEC=ir21_r.dll
  79. [YVU9]
  80. DEC=ir21_r.dll

  82. Indeov.drv and indeo.ini are no longer used and may be deleted if desired.
  83. However, older applications, which install the Indeo video drivers, may still
  84. use indeov.drv and indeo.ini.  Since the name of the latest Indeo video driver
  85. has changed from ir30.dll to ir32.dll, this would prevent IV31 files from
  86. accessing the latest driver.  To avoid this problem, an exact copy of the
  87. latest ir32.dll file, named ir30.dll, is also installed by this setup program.
  88. It is hoped the ir30.dll file will not be used.  But if another setup program
  89. should change the system.ini entries to point to indeov.drv, then the correct
  90. driver will still be accessed through ir30.dll.  In the future, this precaution
  91. should not need to be taken.

  100. For the highest image quality and playback, the following system 
  101. requirements are recommended:
  102.  
  103.    * Intel Pentium processor
  104.    * System RAM: 12+ MB
  105.    * PCI local bus graphics controller
  106.    * SCSI hard drive
  107.  
  108. For best frame rate performance, put the graphics card in 8-bit
  109. color mode.  For best image quality, put the graphics card in
  110. 24-bit color mode.     
  111.    
  112. Based on the application and the size of the video file, some
  113. performance tuning of your computer's resources may be required.

  115. Updates:

  117. As new Indeo video drivers are released, they will be available on  
  118. CompuServe INTELARCH and Intel's Application Support BBS at
  119. (916) 356-3600.

  121. This software update to Indeo Video R3.2 is a software codec change
  122. only.  There have been no changes to the Intel Smart Video Recorder Driver.
