The quest isn't too hard. On the corner of[PARA]the campus is The Tavern on the Lake (popular). Other [EITAL][PUSH]push[EPUSH][ITAL][PARA]plugs: Vincent's in Mumbles (eccentric, fun, friendly Spanish [PARA]landlord), Cricketers, Bryn-Y-Mor. [EITAL][PARA][BOLD]Clubs/discos:[EBOLD] Coaches arrive in Swansea from all over south [PARA]Wales, full of party people in search of a party. There's about 30[PARA]dance dens around the city and students frequent several of [PARA]them. In particular, many students get their glad rags on, jump in [PARA]their pumpkin coach, get down to the Mumbles and have a ball at [PARA]Cinderella's (about ú5), but also anywhere along the so-called [PARA]'Mumbles Mile' where average admission is ú3. The [ITAL]glitsy [EITAL]Ritzy [PARA]is [ITAL]big and brash[EITAL] (cap 2,000), but quite popular.[PARA][BOLD]Music venues:[EBOLD] Apart from the Coach House (local rockers) and [PARA]Ellington's (jazz and blues), [ITAL]there's a serious lack of any serious [PARA]venue for those who want more than Mozart and think it's time [PARA]Beethoven rolled over.[EITAL][ITAL][HDNG]UNIVERSITY:[EHDNG][EITAL][PARA][ITAL][GRPH]E1[EGRPH][STAT][BULL] Price of a pint of beer: ú1 [BULL] Glass of wine: 95p[ESTAT][EITAL][PARA]The Taliesin Arts Centre is the crown of the campus with a [PARA]whole host of entertainment facilities (from exhibitions to film and[PARA]music). [ITAL] It makes up in part for the city's musical and arty cultural [PARA]limitations.[EITAL] Most of the events aren't exclusively by or for [PARA]students even though the College owns the place. [ITAL] There's no [PARA]denying that it's a very handy feature. [EITAL] In October it's the focus of [PARA]the Swansea Fringe Festival - the 2nd biggest in Britain after [PARA]Edinburgh. However, unlike Edinburgh it has the advantage of [PARA]being during term time.[PARA][BOLD]Bars: [EBOLD]There are four bars run by the SU, three at the SU [PARA]Building and one at Hendrefoilan Student Village. The College [PARA]Bar at Fulton House is pretty tacky and not as popular. [ITAL]The [PARA]Taliesin has a bar - not really a student bar nor really student [PARA]prices[EITAL].[PARA][BOLD]Theatres: [EBOLD]The theatre in the Taliesin has a capacity of 350 where [PARA]student productions get a look-in between the touring pros. [PARA]There's a smaller theatre (cap 200) in the Arts Hall (tucked [PARA]behind the more substantial Taliesin). [ITAL] The Drama Society is a [PARA]hotbed of actors acting actively.[EITAL] 1 show went to last year's [ITAL]other [EITAL][PARA]Fringe Festival (the one in Edinburgh).[PARA][BOLD]Cinemas: [EBOLD]The Taliesin shows films that may have been missed [PARA]in mainstream cinemas and has arty and cult screenings (eg [PARA]lately, Farewell My Concubine, Map of the Human Heart).[PARA][BOLD]Clubs/discos: [EBOLD]The SU books local clubs for hard core dance [PARA]deeds: Ritzy, Mondays (2,300, ú1); Harper's, Fridays (800, ú1). [PARA]They also use the College Refectory for Club Passion (ú5) -[ITAL] [PARA]Swansea's own Ravers' Return.[EITAL][PARA][BOLD]Cabaret: [EBOLD]The SU hosts occasional cabaret in Diva's and the [PARA]Hendrefoilan .[PARA][BOLD]Dance: [EBOLD]The Taliesin -[ITAL] the winner of the [EITAL][PUSH]push[EPUSH][ITAL] cultural oasis award [EITAL][PARA]- has recently featured African and Caribbean dance, new wave [PARA]ballet and performance art. All in a day's work.[PARA][BOLD]Music venues:[EBOLD] The Refectory would be the largest venue (800), [PARA]but live bands, such as recently Oui 3 and Urban Cookie [PARA]Collective, haven't been rapturously received, so discos are more [PARA]frequent fare. Local bands often do their bit in the student bars [PARA]and, yet again, The Taliesin [ITAL]routs the rot[EITAL] with hot jazz sessions, [PARA]big band sounds, world music and classical concerts [ITAL]of a [PARA]stunning standard[EITAL].[PARA][BOLD]Others: [EBOLD]Big ball (ú22, 5,000 people) in June. Posh frocks and [PARA]fairground rides.[HDNG]EATING OUT:[EHDNG][PARA]The campus refectory, Angles, is at Fulton House where snacks[PARA]are dished out throughout the day with full meals at lunch and tea.[PARA]The SU runs the Diner,[ITAL] with a limited choice, but OK grub[EITAL]. [PARA]There's a range of eateries round town but that's 2 miles from [PARA]the campus. To the appetite rescue comes the long-suffering [PARA]deliverers of pizzas, Indian food and so on. [ITAL] Come the evening, all[PARA]your wildest greeds catered for. The Indian restaurants, in [PARA]particular on St Helens Rd, are worth a mention.[EITAL] The range, [PARA]quality and price are second only to Bradford, Rusholme and [PARA]Delhi. Night-time nibbles available till at least 2am and deliveries till[PARA]midnight, but only 10pm in The Mumbles.
