[HDNG]IN COLLEGE:[EHDNG][PARA][GRPH]A2[EGRPH][STAT][BULL] Self-catering: 60% [BULL] Cost: ú33-ú42(30wks)[ESTAT][PARA][BOLD]Availability: [EBOLD]All 1st years and most finalists (4th years) have the [PARA]chance to live in. 3rd years who, for the most part are on [PARA]placements, don't really need to. That only leaves the 2nd years [PARA]to fend for themselves. On campus there are 7 'courts' which [PARA]are accommodation blocks[ITAL] of a generally adequate standard[EITAL]. [PARA]Between them they house 2,266 students in single rooms with [PARA]shared kitchens, sometimes even an en suite bathroom. A [PARA]further 350 places are available about 21/2 miles away at Hazel [PARA]Farm which are, in effect, terraced houses for 6 to 7 students let [PARA]by the University. Students share 'KUBs' (kitchen/ [PARA]utility/breakfast rooms with fridge/freezers and cookers) with [PARA]about a dozen others,[ITAL] great for coffee and gossip. [EITAL] 7% of 1st [PARA]years have to share split level rooms. Some floors and houses [PARA]are single sex, but it's mostly mixed. There are a few flats for [PARA]married students only. A shuttle bus runs to and from Hazel [PARA]Farm and when the Union shuts at night.[PARA][BOLD]Car-parking: [EBOLD]Parking on campus is a problem and a permit (not [PARA]readily available to residents) is required on weekdays.[HDNG]EXTERNALLY:[EHDNG][PARA][GRPH]A2[EGRPH][STAT][BULL] Renting: 40% [BULL] Ave rent: ú40[ESTAT][PARA][BOLD]Availability:[EBOLD][ITAL] It's easy enough to find something, but it's probably [PARA]expensive and unsuitable.[EITAL] Almost all 2nd years live out facing a [PARA]daily journey of up to 6 miles to the campus, although many [PARA]manage to find somewhere within 3 miles. [ITAL]The students lucky [PARA]enough to own a car probably won't be lucky enough to find a [PARA]parking place, foiling the point. Students should avoid living in [PARA]Park Barn - decidedly dodgy.[EITAL][PARA][BOLD]Housing help:[EBOLD] To the rescue comes the University-run [PARA]accommodation office to guide students through the vacancy [PARA]bulletin board and standard renting contracts.
