[HDNG]MANCHESTER METROPOLITAN STUDENTS' UNION:[EHDNG][PARA][GRPH]P4[EGRPH][STAT][BULL] 7 sabbaticals [BULL] Turnout at last ballot: 14% [BULL] Ave. turnout at General Meetings: 1-2% [BULL] NUS member [ESTAT][PARA]The Union's main building, opposite the All Saints Building on Oxford Road, was once called The Mandela Building, although the students voted to change it, renamed it the Bruce Forsyth and then changed it again to the Martin Luther King Building - it's generally known as The Union.[ITAL] Grouping Martin Luther King with such great games show hosts as Brucie and Nelson is quite illustrative of most MMU students' attitude to student politics - laugh a lot and don't get strung up about party affiliations.[EITAL][PARA][PARA][ITAL][HDNG]SU FACILITIES:[EHDNG][EITAL][PARA]The Union has facilities on 5 sites including, usually, a bar and snack bar. In the main building there are 2 bars, 2 cafes, a travel agency, a general shop, a customised disco, Barclays Bank and cashpoint, vending, video and games machines, pool tables, juke box, photocopier, photo booth, launderette, TV lounge, 2 minibuses and function rooms.[HDNG]CLUBS (NON SPORTING):[EHDNG][PARA]Anti-Fascist Action; Asian; Chinese; Contemporary Dance; Debating; Environmental and Geographic; Green Action; Film Making; Gray's Inn (legal); Hunt Saboteurs; Independent Musicians; Iraqi Students; Irish; Lesbian; Links; Malaysian; Militant; Musos; New Age; Pan African Progress; Punjabi; Puppetry; RCP; Roleplaying; Soul; Starfleet Academy (sci-fi); Tai Chi (meditation); Tory Reform Group; Women's Art.[HDNG]OTHER ORGANISATIONS:[EHDNG][PARA]'Pulp', the student newspaper has a sabbatical editor. MMU does charity work for special appeals (Red Nose Day, Children in Need, etc) but they've boycotted MASS Rag, which is run by the other universities around Manchester, because of the 'sexist and racist' nature of the Rag mag.[HDNG]RELIGIOUS:[EHDNG][PARA][STAT][BULL] 2 chaplains (CofE, RC)[ESTAT][PARA]On campus, there is a Catholic chapel, apart from which, students must look to Manchester's [ITAL]more than adequate[EITAL] religious facilities. [ITAL]It worked for James Anderton, the peculiar former local Chief Constable who claimed he was on a mission from God.
