[HDNG]UNIVERSITY OF LONDON UNION:[EHDNG][PARA][GRPH]P5[EGRPH][STAT][BULL] 5 sabbatical [BULL] NUS member [ESTAT][PARA][ITAL]The individual colleges' SUs affiliate separately to NUS and are automatically part of ULU which offers the most extraordinary level of facilities at the building in Bloomsbury, open to 11pm or later when hosting an event. ULU is also the students' central representative body and has effective officers on most of the University's important committees. It is a politically balanced union with activists from most parties. Since the student body which ULU represents is so large and so disparate, it never operates through ballots of all members, but rather through an electoral college of representatives from the member SUs. As an inevitable result, the standard Joe or Joanne London student often isn't even aware of ULU's representative role and, relatively speaking, is not that bothered by it. This is, of course, an extremely unfair generalisation and if there's one thing that can be said about London students, it's that they're a very varied bunch. They're also a very cosmopolitan crowd with a large percentage of mature and part time students. ULU often focuses its efforts on providing support for these groups, including running international events and campaigns.[EITAL][PARA][PARA][ITAL][HDNG]SU FACILITIES:[EHDNG][EITAL][PARA]The Union building (ULU Building) contains: 2 bars; cafeteria; general shop; sports shop; print shop and photocopying; theatre and tickets shop; computer shop; travel agent; 2 banks (Barclays and NatWest) with cashpoints; Endsleigh Insurance office; opticians; vending machines; games and gambling machines; fax service; creche; swimming pool; health spa (jacuzzi, sauna, sunbed, massage); fitness centre; gymnasium; squash and badminton courts; launderette; theatre hall; offices and meeting rooms; and a partridge in a pear tree. ULU also provides training for staff and student officers of all the member colleges' SUs, and handbooks and publications for all aspects of London student life.[HDNG]CLUBS (NON SPORTING):[EHDNG][PARA]Air Squadron; Archaeology; Aeronautics; Asian Arts; Anti-Racism; Bahai; Bangladeshi; Bridge; Ballroom Dancing; Black Arts; Brazilian; Chinese; Christian Outreach; Debating; Choral; Farbrengen; Film; Finance; Lifesaving; London Student Sceptics; Meditation; Methodist; Indian Dance; International Forum; JOne World Action; Opera; Polish; Revolutionary Communist; Scottish Dancing; Socialist Organiser; South Asian; St John Ambulance; Sri Lankan; Star Fleet Academy; Sudanese; Survival International; Vedic; Wargames; Wei Qi; Youth Hostelling Association; Zhuan Shu Kuan.[PARA]University colleges also have their own clubs.[HDNG]OTHER ORGANISATIONS:[EHDNG][PARA]The award-winning student newspaper, 'London Student', is published by ULU but is editorially independent. It has a sabbatical editor and is aimed at all London students both in and outside the University.[HDNG]RELIGIOUS:[EHDNG][PARA]London has religious groups for every denomination from from Muslims to Moonies, Jews to Jains, and the Church of the Divine Simon from Brookside.[HDNG]PAID WORK:[EHDNG][PARA][ITAL]There are more opportunities in London for part-time work than anywhere else, but there are also more people trying to get those jobs. Students find work in all the usual places like bars and restaurants and also in theatres, offices and shops.[EITAL][PARA][PARA]
