[HDNG]UNIVERSITY OF HUMBERSIDE STUDENTS' UNION:[EHDNG][PARA][GRPH]P5[EGRPH][STAT][BULL] 5 sabbaticals [BULL] Turnout at last ballot: 10% [BULL] Ave. turnout [PARA]at General Meetings: 2.5% [BULL] NUS member [ESTAT][PARA][ITAL]With so little community atmosphere it's hard to steel students [PARA]for a bout of banner brandishing, not that the Union ever tries. It [PARA]seems as though one part of the Union never knows what the [PARA]other parts are doing. The only matters that raise even an [PARA]eyebrow, let alone a battle cry, are locally-based or [PARA]University-related student issues, notably over-crowding and [PARA]stretched facilities. Even the attitude to commercial activities is [PARA]somewhat robotic and unconsidered. Relations with the [PARA]University are pretty cruddy; one idea being floated is to cut the [PARA]number of sabbaticals to one.[EITAL][HDNG]SU FACILITIES:[EHDNG][PARA]The new Union building, the Strand, [ITAL]is something of a shell[EITAL]; all the[PARA]available funds have been sucked up by the building itself, [ITAL]leaving [PARA]a skeleton staff, and few facilities[EITAL]. There are offices, a bar and a [PARA]cinema. Also lots of plans, but funding overall is due to suffer a [PARA]4% cut.[HDNG]CLUBS (NON SPORTING):[EHDNG][PARA]Warsoc (battle re-enactment); Film ; Radio; Multimedia; Hellenic.[HDNG]OTHER ORGANISATIONS:[EHDNG][PARA]The student magazine is called 'Hull Subway', and Grimsby has [PARA]its own mag, 'FAF'.[PARA][PARA][ITAL][HDNG]RELIGIOUS:[EHDNG][EITAL][PARA]Students rely on the 2 towns for their religion fix. [BOLD]Religion in Hull: [EBOLD][PARA]see [ULNE]University of Hull[EULNE].[HDNG]PAID WORK:[EHDNG][PARA][ITAL]Hull has got a pretty bad unemployment problem, and students [PARA]aren't first in the queue, facing resentment if they try to push in.[EITAL][PARA][PARA]
