[HDNG]INTRODUCTION:[EHDNG][PARA][BULL] The College is part of University of Cambridge and students are entitled to use its facilities.[EBOLD][PARA]3/4 mile from King's Parade, most of New Hall was built in the 60s. The white brick is turning grey and the huge dome, which dominates the centre of the College is, shall we say, [ITAL]an acquired taste[EITAL]. Inside it, there's a display of women's 20th century art and a large sculpture of a saucepan, called 'Skin and Blister', arrests attention in the lawn. [ITAL]New Hall is as relaxed as they come in Cambridge [EITAL]- not a gown in sight. The undergrads are all female [ITAL]and happy about it . There's a good bar, but much socialising goes on with those from outside the College (and male students are imported for social events). Alternatively, the students get involved in University). Many worry about going to an all-female college and many did not choose to do so (having been pooled), although the strong sense of support, friendship and purpose soon ousts anxieties.[EITAL][PARA][PARA]Bar (cap 100, open 3 times a week) holds bops after formal dinners (1/wk); concerts and students bands at 'the Dome' (cap 300), Vivien Stewart Room (60), Fellows Drawing Room (45) or the Party Room (80), which also hosts fortnightly bops. Cabaret occasionally; balls, socials, cocktail parties; music room; grand piano and original harpsichord. JCR newsletter; 'Muse' literary magazine; 2 libraries (50,000 books); 10 computers; CofE pastoral advisor; art room; sewing room; dark room. [ITAL]Strong [EITAL]boat club. 93% of students live in and in College-run properties; 10% of rooms are shared; pay-as-you-eat at canteen in The Dome ([ITAL]good for veggies[EITAL]); permit parking. Nurse; various support funds.[HDNG]FAMOUS ALUMNI:[EHDNG][PARA]Frances Edmonds (writer); Selima Hill (poet); Joanna McGregor (concert pianist); Jane Rogers (actress); Tilda Swinton (actress).
