It started life as a women only college, before going mixed in 1977. Nowadays,[ITAL] it's one of Cambridge's most liberal, relaxed and actively fun colleges[EITAL] with many state schools and overseas students. Being out of town gives it has over 50 acres of grounds with gothic redbrick buildings. Nearby, there's the little village of Girton[ITAL] with which the college has an excellent relationship[EITAL], including an adopt-a-family scheme. In town, Girton has Wolfson Court, a modern accommodation block and dining hall. [ITAL]Despite the distance, students play an active part in University pursuits.
