[HDNG]THE CITY:[EHDNG][PARA][GRPH]E3[EGRPH][STAT][BULL] Price of a pint of beer: ú1.40 [BULL] Glass of wine: ú1.20[ESTAT][PARA][BOLD]Cinemas:[EBOLD] There are 3 cinemas: the Odeon (with 5 screens); the Cannon (3); and the almost arty Capital Cinema (1).[PARA][BOLD]Theatres:[EBOLD] (3) His Majesty's Theatre attracts big time ballet and opera on tour as well as less elite delights like pantos and the annual Student Revue. Aberdeen Arts Centre is smaller and hosts more fringey shows, as does the Lemon Tree.[PARA][BOLD]Pubs:[EBOLD] A mixture of old men's pubs and pretentious glittery bars with little dance floors. [PUSH]push[EPUSH][ITAL]plugs: The Globe; Under The Hammer; The St Machar Bar (lecturers); King Street Mill (no lecturers); Egg and Dart (especially convenient for [ULNE]Robert Gordon[EULNE] students); Malt Mill (live music); Prince of Wales (real ale); Ma Camerons (good food, big); Wild Boar (studenty with grub); Kirkgate (popular with Marischal students and medics) and many, many others.[EITAL][PARA][BOLD]Clubs/discos:[EBOLD] [ITAL]Whilst not exactly bop city, Aberdeen has enough clubs to keep hips moving and feet tapping. [EITAL][PUSH]push[EPUSH][ITAL]plugs: Bonkers (fits all tastes, ú2); O'Henry's (studenty); Ministry of Sin (converted church, ú4). There are also several lesbian and gay clubs, including Club CaberFeidh, the largest gay haunt in Northern Scotland.[EITAL][PARA][BOLD]Music venues:[EBOLD] Many pubs have folky folks crooning or boppier bands, but top of the pops with students are the Pelican Club, which frequently features touring bands, and The Lemon Tree, for jazz. Other more dedicated sound houses include the Music Hall, Her Majesty's Theatre, The Malt Mill and The Exhibition Centre, which occasionally hosts big names like Meat Loaf.[HDNG]UNIVERSITY:[EHDNG][PARA][GRPH]E2[EGRPH][STAT][BULL] Price of a pint of beer: ú1.20 [BULL] Glass of wine: ú1[ESTAT][PARA][BOLD]Bars:[EBOLD] There are 4 bars in the Union which often host events: The Dungeon (dark with messages on the wall like 'The crime is life, the sentence is death'); the Sivell's Cocktail Lounge (large, airy, domed, art deco wine bar with fans and murals); the Neill Lounge and Bedlam, which both have musical interludes.[PARA][BOLD]Theatres:[EBOLD] Performers perform and actors act in the University theatre. Rag runs a show each year.[PARA][BOLD]Cinemas: [EBOLD]The film club last year showed Reservoir Dogs, Blue Velvet, and Citizen Kane.[PARA][BOLD]Clubs/discos and music venues:[EBOLD] Go mad at the [ITAL]ravey[EITAL] neon-lit Bedlam (cap 650) 4 times a week in the Union, usually with lithe live bands. Alternatively, students bop till they break most nights in the Neill Lounge (473) - a pick-up joint, decorated in grey and white shapes, or The Dungeon (276).[PARA][BOLD]Recent band appearances:[EBOLD] The Wonder Stuff, The Farm, Deacon Blue.[PARA][BOLD]Balls: [EBOLD]Many departmental balls ([ITAL]land economy is supposed to be the best[EITAL]).[PARA][BOLD]Others:[EBOLD] Once a term, the whole Union is taken over for a 1 day event featuring karaoke, bingo, cabaret, live bands, circus acts and so on. [ITAL]Generally, the Union keeps students very well entertained, making up for the city's shortfalls. There's a certain level of resentment at students from Robert Gordon University making plentiful use of the facilities.[EITAL][PARA][PARA][ITAL][HDNG]EATING OUT:[EHDNG][EITAL][PARA]During the day, the dishiest dishes are sought by students at the Central Refectory at King's or Gannet's restaurant at the Union, open 6 days a week till 7pm. Otherwise, students choose to chew at local eateries, which cover the spread from fast food to top notch scoff. [ITAL]Aberdeen is swimming in local fish. Eating out is often more expensive than elsewhere in Scotland and the North. [EITAL][PUSH]push[EPUSH][ITAL]plugs: Ashvale Fish Restaurant (fish'n'chips with waiters or to take away); Gerards (French, take parents or parents' wallets); La Lombarda; Owlies (wholefood/veggie); Radars (burgers/Mexican); Tastie Tatties (a mere potato's throw from the Union, open till late); Khan's Tandoori; Radars (student stuffing fast food).[EITAL][PARA][PARA]
