  1. Thank you for your interest in the CompuServe Information Manager(tm) 
  2. for Windows - WinCIM(r).
  3.  
  4. A rich context-sensitive Help feature can be accessed from any area of 
  5. WinCIM by hitting the F1 key.
  6.  
  7. You can obtain information on the current status of WinCIM by accessing 
  8. the GO WINCIM area on CompuServe.  This area contains information 
  9. related to the status of WinCIM.  
  10.  
  11. You can also obtain help and support through the WinCIM Support Forum 
  12. (GO WCIMSUPPORT).  This forum is devoted to WinCIM and is staffed by 
  13. representatives from CompuServe's Customer Service department.

  16. New features in WinCIM 1.3:
  17.  
  18. - Changes have been made in the way we handle the About Box.  
  19.   They are:
  20.  
  21.     1. A "splash" screen is now displayed when WinCIM is first 
  22.        started. After displaying for a few seconds, the 
  23.        dialog will disappear automatically.
  24.  
  25.     2. The WinCIM About Box will only be displayed if the 
  26.        "About CIM" choice is selected from the Help pull-down menu.
  27.  
  28.     3. The General Preferences dialog box has been changed.  The
  29.        "About Box" option has been removed from the "Initial Desktop"
  30.        option.  There is no way to prevent the splash screen from
  31.        showing at startup.

  33. - The Browse Services window has been redesigned to contain 
  34.   more categories.
  35.  
  36. - A new "Connect" dialog has been implemented.  This new dialog 
  37.   allows users to easily connect to CompuServe.  The dialog will 
  38.   appear when the program first starts and can be disabled by 
  39.   un-checking the "Show at Startup" option (located on the dialog).
  40.   Choosing the option to connect causes WinCIM to access the What New
  41.   Information.  The dialog can be displayed (if it was closed) by 
  42.   selecting the "Connect..." choice on the File pull-down menu.

  44. - Support for an enhanced style of menus has been implemented in 
  45.   WinCIM 1.3.  These menus will be used in some CompuServe 
  46.   services that will be available soon.

  48. - A "Show Graphic Menus" preference was added to the General 
  49.   Preferences dialog.  This controls if WinCIM will request/display
  50.   the new enhanced menus that will appear in some services shortly.

  52. - Carrier Detect (primarily used for modems) can now be enabled or
  53.   disabled by clicking the "More" button on the Session Settings 
  54.   dialog.  The default setting for this option is "ON".  If WinCIM 
  55.   is being used with a modem that does not support Carrier Detect, 
  56.   this option can now be disabled.

  58. - The printer dialog is no longer displayed when users attempt to 
  59.   set their fonts.

  62. Important WinCIM Information:

  64. - If you are upgrading from WinCIM version 1.0.5 (or earlier) 
  65.   AND you have the "^" character in your password, you will 
  66.   need to respecify your password the very first time you 
  67.   use WinCIM 1.2.  You only need to do this if you have the 
  68.   password stored in your session settings.
  69.   
  70. - WinCIM "looks" at the text in menus and articles and determines 
  71.   if the data is column data.  If WinCIM detects that the 
  72.   information contains column data, it will switch into a fixed 
  73.   font (so the information will line up properly).  You can switch
  74.   between the fixed and proportional font by choosing the 
  75.   "Fixed Font" option from the Edit pull down menu (or you 
  76.   can use Cntrl-T).

  78. - Special features in WinCIM can be accessed by modifying items in 
  79.   the WINCIM.INI file.  See the file WC-INI.TXT in the WinCIM Support
  80.   Forum (GO WCIMSUPPORT) for additional details.

  82. - International keyboard characters (ISO Latin-1) can be used in 
  83.   WinCIM.  This capability allows WinCIM users to send CompuServe 
  84.   Mail and Forum messages that contain international characters.  
  85.   There are some known limitations to using these characters.

  90. - WinCIM is shipped with a mono-spaced font that can be used when 
  91.   using WinCIM's terminal emulation mode.  This font (Monospaced 821)
  92.   can be installed through the Windows Control Panel and it will then 
  93.   be available for use in WinCIM.  You can find this font in the
  94.   c:\cserve\wincim directory.

  96.   The default "Terminal" font can be changed in WinCIM by accessing 
  97.   the "General Preferences" dialog and clicking on the "Fonts" button.

  99. - Sounds (.WAV files) can now be associated with WinCIM events (i.e.
  100.   connecting, file transfer completion, etc.).  Sounds can be added 
  101.   and removed through the sound module in the Windows Control Panel.

  103.   The WinCIM install procedure does not overwrite any existing 
  104.   sounds that may already be defined in the WIN.INI file.  If 
  105.   WinCIM made changes to the WIN.INI file, the original file was 
  106.   backed up and named WININI.CIM.
