- Thank you for your interest in the CompuServe Information Manager(tm)
- for Windows - WinCIM(r).
-
- A rich context-sensitive Help feature can be accessed from any area of
- WinCIM by hitting the F1 key.
-
- You can obtain information on the current status of WinCIM by accessing
- the GO WINCIM area on CompuServe. This area contains information
- related to the status of WinCIM.
-
- You can also obtain help and support through the WinCIM Support Forum
- (GO WCIMSUPPORT). This forum is devoted to WinCIM and is staffed by
- representatives from CompuServe's Customer Service department.
-
-
- New features in WinCIM 1.3:
-
- - Changes have been made in the way we handle the About Box.
- They are:
-
- 1. A "splash" screen is now displayed when WinCIM is first
- started. After displaying for a few seconds, the
- dialog will disappear automatically.
-
- 2. The WinCIM About Box will only be displayed if the
- "About CIM" choice is selected from the Help pull-down menu.
-
- 3. The General Preferences dialog box has been changed. The
- "About Box" option has been removed from the "Initial Desktop"
- option. There is no way to prevent the splash screen from
- showing at startup.
-
- - The Browse Services window has been redesigned to contain
- more categories.
-
- - A new "Connect" dialog has been implemented. This new dialog
- allows users to easily connect to CompuServe. The dialog will
- appear when the program first starts and can be disabled by
- un-checking the "Show at Startup" option (located on the dialog).
- Choosing the option to connect causes WinCIM to access the What New
- Information. The dialog can be displayed (if it was closed) by
- selecting the "Connect..." choice on the File pull-down menu.
-
- - Support for an enhanced style of menus has been implemented in
- WinCIM 1.3. These menus will be used in some CompuServe
- services that will be available soon.
-
- - A "Show Graphic Menus" preference was added to the General
- Preferences dialog. This controls if WinCIM will request/display
- the new enhanced menus that will appear in some services shortly.
-
- - Carrier Detect (primarily used for modems) can now be enabled or
- disabled by clicking the "More" button on the Session Settings
- dialog. The default setting for this option is "ON". If WinCIM
- is being used with a modem that does not support Carrier Detect,
- this option can now be disabled.
-
- - The printer dialog is no longer displayed when users attempt to
- set their fonts.
-
-
- Important WinCIM Information:
-
- - If you are upgrading from WinCIM version 1.0.5 (or earlier)
- AND you have the "^" character in your password, you will
- need to respecify your password the very first time you
- use WinCIM 1.2. You only need to do this if you have the
- password stored in your session settings.
-
- - WinCIM "looks" at the text in menus and articles and determines
- if the data is column data. If WinCIM detects that the
- information contains column data, it will switch into a fixed
- font (so the information will line up properly). You can switch
- between the fixed and proportional font by choosing the
- "Fixed Font" option from the Edit pull down menu (or you
- can use Cntrl-T).
-
- - Special features in WinCIM can be accessed by modifying items in
- the WINCIM.INI file. See the file WC-INI.TXT in the WinCIM Support
- Forum (GO WCIMSUPPORT) for additional details.
-
- - International keyboard characters (ISO Latin-1) can be used in
- WinCIM. This capability allows WinCIM users to send CompuServe
- Mail and Forum messages that contain international characters.
- There are some known limitations to using these characters.
- For additional information about this topic, see the file
- WC8BIT.TXT in the "General" Library of the WinCIM Support Forum
- (GO WCIMSUPPORT).
-
- - WinCIM is shipped with a mono-spaced font that can be used when
- using WinCIM's terminal emulation mode. This font (Monospaced 821)
- can be installed through the Windows Control Panel and it will then
- be available for use in WinCIM. You can find this font in the
- c:\cserve\wincim directory.
-
- The default "Terminal" font can be changed in WinCIM by accessing
- the "General Preferences" dialog and clicking on the "Fonts" button.
-
- - Sounds (.WAV files) can now be associated with WinCIM events (i.e.
- connecting, file transfer completion, etc.). Sounds can be added
- and removed through the sound module in the Windows Control Panel.
-
- The WinCIM install procedure does not overwrite any existing
- sounds that may already be defined in the WIN.INI file. If
- WinCIM made changes to the WIN.INI file, the original file was
- backed up and named WININI.CIM.
