  20. You'll be up and blasting your friends in no time by following these simple
  21. directions below.  Estimated time to complete is only a few minutes!

  24. YOU WILL NEED:

  27.   Minimum Hardware Requirements          Recommended Hardware
  28.     386/40 computer                         486/33 or faster computer
  29.     4 megabytes of memory                   6 or more megabytes of memory
  30.     9600 baud modem                         14.4k baud or faster modem
  31.  
  32.   Software Requirements
  33.     DOOM, DOOM II, or the multiplayer game of your choice
  34.     The SIRDOOM program (distributed with this document)
  35.  
  36. INSTRUCTIONS:
  37. ------------
  38.  
  39. 1.  You should place the GMESCAPE.EXE file in its own directory
  40.     and run it to extract the software you'll need.  You've
  41.     probably already done this if you're reading this document.
  42.  
  43. 2.  Run SIRDOOM from the DOS prompt.  SIRDOOM will NOT work from
  44.     within Microsoft Windows.
  45.  
  46. 3.  Type Alt-C (Hold down the ALT key and type 'C') to open the
  47.     Configure menu.
  48.  
  49. 4.  Press ENTER to SELECT GAME.  Use this screen to tell SIRDOOM
  50.     where on your hard drive that your DOOM and DOOM II files
  51.     are located.  When you're done, press ESC.
  52.  
  53. 5.  Use the Configure menu to set your desired DOOM options.
  54.  
  55. 6.  Use the Configure menu again to set up your modem.  Most people will
  56.     want to use 19200 as your baud rate, even if your modem doesn't
  57.     transmit data at that speed.
  58.  
  59.     Set the COM port to the port used by your modem.
  60.  
  61.     For the Init line, you'll want to type the initialization string
  62.     for your modem that TURNS OFF DATA COMPRESSION and ERROR
  63.     CORRECTION.  See the end of this file for a list of popular
  64.     modems and their settings.  If your modem isn't listed,
  65.     look in the manual that came with your modem for the correct
  66.     commands to DISABLE DATA COMPRESSION and DISABLE ERROR
  67.     CORRECTION.
  68.  
  69. 7.  Select SAVE AND EXIT from the Configuration menu.  You'll be
  70.     back in the SIRDOOM terminal screen.
  71.  
  72. 8.  Type Alt-I to initialize your modem.
  73.  
  74.     IF YOU SEE NOTHING, you've probably selected the wrong COM port.
  75.  
  76.     IF YOU SEE 'ERROR', you need to change the Init string for your
  77.             modem.  Consult your modem manual.
  78.  
  79.     IF YOU SEE 'OK', your modem is properly configured.
  80.  
  81. 9.  Press Alt-D and then ENTER to dial the Gamescape BBS.
  82.  
  83. 10. You are now ready to play!
