  67.       ■ To install Surface Tension follow the following steps :

  69.           1. Insert disk into CD drive.
  70.           2. Change directory to your CD drive.
  71.           3. Type install from your command prompt.
  72.           4. Repeatedly press <ENTER> to choose the default options,
  73.              unless you want special modifications to suit your needs.
  74.  
  75.       ■ For most cases and most users, this will be the quickest and 
  76.         easiest to do this dull but important task.
  77.  
  78.       ■ The default configuration that would be chosen in this manner
  79.         would be :

  81.          640 x 480 True Color 32k/64k colors (default)
  82.          Minimal - 14Mb
  83.          First drive (usually C:) in \GAMES\ST directory (under root).
  84.          Auto-detection is used to choose your sound card configuration.

  90.       ■ To install Surface Tension DEMO follow the following steps :

  92.           1. Insert disk into CD drive.
  93.           2. Change directory to your CD drive.
  94.           3. Type install from your command prompt.

  96.       ■ The Surface Tension installation program will start now.

  98.       ■ To use the installation screens :
  99.  
  100.         ∙ <TAB> through fields (and you may <SHIFT>-<TAB> also - wow !!!)
  101.         ∙ Select with <ENTER>
  102.         ∙ Enter text with the keyboard 
  103.         ∙ Short-cut to field with <ALT>-<*HIGHLIGHTED LETTER*>
  104.         ∙ <ESC> to abort anytime ! (y ? r u crazy ???)  
  105.         ∙ You may also use the mouse to choose fields or make selections
  106.  
  107.       ■ After each screen, confirm selections with <OK> button (or use
  108.         use <CANCEL> to revert or exit).

  110.       ■ The following will explain each screen in the installation.

  113.         [2.1] Screen mode

  116.               ■ In this screen you choose the graphic mode in which
  117.                 Surface Tension will run.
  118.                 Availiable options are :
  119.  
  120.                  640 x 480 True Color 32k/64k colors (default)
  121.  
  122.                   Choosing this option you get near to real life color.
  123.                   Playing in this mode is a bit slower and is recomended 
  124.                   only on fast computers. However it is still playable 
  125.                   on minimal configurations.
  126.                 
  127.                  640 x 480 HiRes 256 colors
  128.  
  129.                   If you choose this option you will play in less colors
  130.                   but the game will be more fluent (higher frame rate).
  131.                   It is recommended to choose this option on slow 
  132.                   computers with less memory.

  140.                 With this method the game will take little disk space
  141.                 but playing the game can be discomforting when loading
  142.                 a new world or a saved game since it will take a lot 
  143.                 of time.

  147.                 Choosing this option will not be so annoying when loading
  148.                 but it will hurt your disk space more. 
  149.                 If you have as much as 8 more megabytes availiable,
  150.                 you are advised to use the ultimate full installation.

  154.                 This method of installation will take more time and disk
  155.                 space but once you install the game, loading new worlds
  156.                 and saved games will take less time (very convinient).

  159.         [2.3] Path

  162.               The screen is divided into "available drives" list box,
  163.               and "where to install" text box.
  164.  
  165.                Availiable drives

  167.                 ■ The list box will display all available logical drives
  168.                   with type (Hard, Network) and disk space availiable on
  169.                   each drive.

  171.                 ■ Select the wanted drive in the available drives list box
  172.                   by choosing the listbox and using the <UP>,<DOWN> buttons.
  173.                   Then press <ENTER> to move to "Where to install" text box.
  174.  
  175.                 ■ You can use the scroll bar to see more drives if they don't
  176.                   fit the list box.

  180.                 ■ In this text box you type the full path of the installation
  181.  
  182.                 ■ The drive is derived from the selection in the 
  183.                   "available drives" listbox, but it can still be changed
  184.                   by typing a new path.

  186.                 ■ If you choose a path that does not exist you will be asked
  187.                   "if you want to create it?" when you continue the
  188.                   installation.

  190.                 ■ If there is not enough disk space on the drive you chose,
  191.                   you will be informed of this.

  193.                 ■ If a previous installation exists in the path you chose
  194.                   you will be asked if you want to override previous
  195.                   installation.

  203.               ■ In the progress window you will see the files created
  204.                 and a precentage bar that indicates progress in precentage.
  205.                 If you press any key or click the cancel button you abort
  206.                 the installation.

  208.               ■ After this stage (if it is successfull) the sound 
  209.                 installation program will start.

  216.       ■ The sound setup program can be invoked by typing
  217.         SETUP at the insallation directory. It will automatically
  218.         be invoked after game installation is complete.

  220.       ■ The setup program lets you choose your sound card and configures
  221.         the game to use this sound card.

  226.               ■ Basically the game supports sound blaster and compatibles 
  227.                 but has special support for the following cards:

  240.               ■ It is recommended that you autodetect your sound card by 
  241.                 pressing the autodetect button. 
  242.                 Doing this will cause the computer to highlight your sound
  243.                 card in the sound card listbox.
  244.                 The autodetection will also fill the PORT NUMBER, 
  245.                 INTERRUPT NUMBER and DMA CHANNEL fields for you 
  246.                 (correctly we hope ...).

  248.               ■ If you have any changes you want to make to the autodetected 
  249.                 configuration, you can enter the fields using the mouse or
  250.                 the keyboard, and make these modifications yourself.

  253.         [4.3] Sound testing
  254.

  256.               ■ After you are satisfied with the sound card parameters
  257.                 you will probably want to test it.
  258.  
  259.               ■ Just press the TEST button with the mouse or pick it and
  260.                 press <ENTER>.

  262.               ■ You will hear the music played from your CD. Do not forget
  263.                 to place the CD in the CD drive otherwise you'll get 
  264.                 an error message .

  266.               ■ If you do not hear the music, check to see if the speakers
  267.                 are attached, or if the volume is low. If you still do not
  268.                 hear anything, check the mixer of your sound blaser,
  269.                 and see if sound effects have any volume.

  272.   [5] Trouble Shooting

  274.       ■ The installation cannot handle properly network CD Drives ! 
  275.         Press <ENTER> to skip the error message, after inserting a CD
  276.         to the network CD drive.
