  11. NOT ENOUGH RAM?
  12. ===============
  13. It is possible that ALBION reports it
  14. does not find enough memory or that
  15. memory is too fragmented.
  16.  
  17. In the long run you can remedy this
  18. problem by removing programs from your
  19. configuration (CONFIG.SYS and
  20. AUTOEXEC.BAT) which are not essential,
  21. such as SMARTDRV.EXE.
  22.  
  23. If you type ALBILOW instead of ALBION,
  24. the problem is remedied automatically,
  25. although the program will run slower
  26. because your hard drive is being used
  27. as "virtual memory".
  28. Please note that you need at least 16
  29. megabytes of free space on your hard
  30. drive to use ALBILOW.

  33. TIP: WINDOWS 95
  34. ===============
  35. Start the ALBION shortcut (the icon
  36. with the MS-DOS symbol) instead of the
  37. ALBION application.

  40. TIP: WINDOWS 95 with 8MB RAM
  41. ============================
  42. Although the game works with this
  43. configuration, you may want to try and
  44. play the game in MS-DOS mode.
  45. Windows 95 employs virtual memory which
  46. slows the program down.

  49. WINDOWS 3.11
  50. ============
  51. We recommend you to play ALBION using
  52. DOS instead of Windows 3.11.
  53. In most cases ALBION works fine with
  54. Windows 3.11.
  55.

  57. HARD DRIVE SPACE
  58. ================
  59. ALBION runs almost completely from CD
  60. and requires only very little hard
  61. drive space. However, a saved game can
  62. grow to about 300 kilobytes. If you
  63. save a lot of games this will take up
  64. quite a chunk on your hard drive.
  65. Delete any old saved games (in the
  66. SAVES subdirectory), if you need room
  67. on your hard drive.

  70. OPTIONS MENU
  71. ============
  72. The options menu contains volume
  73. controls for music and sound effects.
  74. It also allows you to set the size of
  75. the 3D window, as well as some
  76. controls that allow you to customize
  77. the combat screen.

  79. COMBAT DETAIL LEVEL influences what
  80. the combat spells look like. If some
  81. effects slow down your computer, you
  82. can speed them up using this slider.

  84. COMBAT TEXT DELAY influences how long
  85. the texts during the combat rounds are
  86. shown. By changing this you change the
  87. duration of the entire combat round.

  90. ASKING PARTY MEMBERS TO LEAVE
  91. =============================
  92. If you want a member of your party to
  93. leave (perhaps because you want to
  94. take someone else with you), you can
  95. ask him or her to leave during a
  96. dialogue.
  97. However, not everyone will leave at
  98. any time during the game, which means
  99. the option is not always available in
  100. the dialogue screen.

  103. WORD LIST DURING DIALOGUES
  104. ==========================
  105. To help you remember which words you
  106. have already asked about in a
  107. dialogue, the already chosen words are
  108. shown in SILVER, whereas the words you
  109. haven't asked about yet are shown in
  110. GOLD.

  113. GOTO-POINTS IN CITIES
  114. =====================
  115. Please remember that you must have
  116. reached a location before a goto-point
  117. appears. It's not enough to have
  118. "seen" the location in the automap.

  121. SPELLS "BOASTING", "SHOCK" & "PANIC"
  122. ====================================
  123. To successfully use these spells you
  124. should know two things: first of all
  125. the effect depends not only on the
  126. spell's strength, but can also be
  127. improved by casting it more than once.
  128. Second, hitting a monster (any
  129. monster) helps to increase the
  130. intimidating effect of these spells.

  133. IF PROBLEMS SHOULD OCCUR
  134. ========================
  135. We have tested ALBION for hundreds of
  136. hours. However, if a problem occurs,
  137. the program will play a tone on your
  138. PC's internal speaker.
  139.  
  140. If the problem is not critical you
  141. will be notified when you leave the
  142. game. If the problem does not bother
  143. you while playing, ignore it.
  144.  
  145. If the program is ended automatically,
  146. or the problem stops you from playing,
  147. you will find a file called ERROR.LOG
  148. in the ALBION directory. The program
  149. writes an error report in this file.
  150.  
  151. In this case contact our hotline
  152. (see the manual) and pass them the
  153. information in the error log file.

  156. DEMOS ON THE ALBION CD
  157. ======================
  158. On the CD you will find several demos
  159. of upcoming Blue Byte products. These
  160. are stored in the AVI (Video for
  161. Windows) format.
  162. To watch the videos, start Windows and
  163. start the program INSTALL.EXE in the
  164. BBVIDEO directory on the CD. This
  165. program will create a program group
  166. and several icons. Double-click on an
  167. icon to watch a video.
  168.  
  169. To watch the videos, Video for Windows
  170. must have been installed on your PC.
  171. For your convenience we have included
  172. a Video for Windows installation
  173. program.
