  2. THE PORTEX PERSONAL DEMONSTRATION DISK

  6. The Portex demonstration disk has been designed to show you the
  7. wide range of functions the Portex system has to offer.  A number
  8. of sample files are included that can be loaded, saved and
  9. printed.  However, as this disk is for demonstration only, the
  10. on-line help, and 80,000 word spelling checker are not included.
  11. File loading/saving has been restricted to small files only.
  12.  
  13. The Portex software is designed to be self explanatory, but as the
  14. Portex User Manual is not available, it is recommended that you
  15. read this file carefully before using Portex.  If you should have
  16. any questions or technical problems whilst using Portex, then

  22. INSTALLING PORTEX
  23.  
  24. This version of Portex should run correctly on all IBM PC's and
  25. compatibles with a minimum of 256K of memory and a CGA, EGA or
  26. Monochrome monitor and does not need to be installed.
  27. However, if your PC does not appear to be running Portex
  28. correctly, try using one of the "Command Line Switches" below.
  29. More than one of these settings can be used together.

  31. PORTEX G     Monochrome display with a colour display adapter.
  32.  
  33. PORTEX GR    As above with bright and dim reversed.
  34.  
  35. PORTEX A     Amstrad 1512 Mono-Monitor and similar 16-grey scales.

  37. PORTEX B     Force black & white attributes although a colour
  38.              card is detected.
  39.  
  40. PORTEX C     Force colour attributes to be used although a
  41.              non-graphics card is detected.
  42.  
  43. PORTEX D    forces Portex to use the monochrome video hardware.

  45. PORTEX E    forces Portex to use the colour video hardware.

  49. PRINTER SUPPORT
  50.  
  51. As we have only been able to supply a few printer drivers, we
  52. have included the following standard drivers.  One of these
  53. standard drivers will almost certainly work with your printer.
  54.  
  55. STANDARD    For standard dot matrix printers which can
  56.             print in both 10 and 17  cpi.  (Fonts are
  57.             automatically selected).
  58.  
  59. STANDRD1    For 10 cpi printers.  (Best suited for
  60.             continuous stationery. No fonts are selected).
  61.  
  62. STANDRD2    For use with 10 cpi daisy wheel printers.
  63.             (Best suited for sheet fed stationery. No
  64.             fonts are selected).
  65.  
  66. STANDRD3    For use with 17 cpi printers.(No fonts are
  67.             selected).
  68.  
  69. Where fonts are not automatically selected, an initialisation
  70. string may need to be sent to select the appropriate pitch/cpi.
