-
- Quick Description
- -----------------
- Lush graphics, realistic digital sound effects, and a
- wonderful sound track set the stage for a thrilling flying
- experience. Just collect fuel! This is no game of pure
- destruction, but it sure can be!
-
-
- Instructions
- ------------
- Just collect fuel by destroying it. Avoid or destroy
- everything else. Watch out, though! Destroying an object can
- be more deadly than leaving the object alone. In other words,
- explosions can kill you. Check the Hints & Tips section for
- more helpful hints.
-
- However, in order to play you'll have to have the
- required hardware and run SETUP.EXE to select the optionally
- supported hardware.
-
-
- Required Hardware
- -----------------
- Evasive Maneuvers requires the following hardware:
-
- - At least a 386 processor. A 486, or Pentium is fine.
- - The minimum free conventional memory is 395K.
- Sound will require an additional 125K
- Music will also require an additional 20K.
- Total memory requirements are 540K.
- - A VGA card. Super VGA and MCGA cards are fine.
-
-
- Setting Up
- ----------
- Once you have configured the game, you won't have to run
- the setup program again, unless you wish to change any of your
- previous choices.
-
-
- Sound FX
- --------
- Evasive Maneuvers has outstanding digital sound effects
- throughout the game. The following choices are available,
- Sound Blaster is recommended.
-
- No Sound: Select this if you don't wish to hear sound
- effects, just don't have enough memory, or you don't have
- the other devices.
-
- PC Speaker: Yes, it can also play the digital sound
- effects, just not very well though as it wasn't designed for
- digital samples. The method is very processor intensive and
- will require a very fast computer, at least a 386 running at
- 25mhz. There are two quality modes. "Okay" will sound the
- best. If Evasive Maneuvers plays very badly, your computer
- probably can't keep up. Try the "Poor" setting, if the game
- is still unplayable, then select "No Sound." This method
- will sound really bad if your computer does not use a normal
- speaker (cone). Notebooks and Laptops are examples of this.
- Using this option under Windows is not recommended.
-
- Sound Blaster: The sound card standard on the PC. Capable
- of wonderful sound effects in the background. You'll need a
- Sound Blaster or compatible card. The setup program will
- require the address and IRQ channel, so have it handy.
-
-
- Music
- -----
- Evasive Maneuvers has a fantastic sound track that
- accompanies the game. The following choices are available,
- General MIDI is recommended.
-
- No Music: Select this if you don't wish to hear music,
- just don't have enough memory, or you don't have the other
- devices.
-
- FM: The music standard on the PC. Requires an Adlib or
- compatible cards such as the Sound Blaster and it's many
- clones.
-
- General MIDI: General MIDI uses recordings of actual
- instruments and it sounds fantastic. More and more new
- sound cards support General MIDI through software or
- hardware. Pray your sound card does!
-
-
- Input
- -----
- You have to play the game with something! The
- following choices are available. We recommend the joystick.
-
- Keyboard: You control the game with the cursor keys for
- movement, CTRL is Button A, and ALT is Button B. You can
- define your own keys if you select it.
-
- Joystick: Most PC joysticks gradually drift and become
- uncalibrated the more you use them. If you experience these
- problems you might want to use the keyboard. Digital
- joysticks like Gamepads don't suffer from drifting and will
- make the game more enjoyable to play.
-
-
- Tips and Hints
- --------------
- Now would be a good time to play the game. This section
- probably won't make much sense until you've played the game.
-
- - Your ship is considered "off the screen" when there is not
- a single pixel remaining to be seen. A useful tactic to
- get out of pressure situations is to let your ship fall
- off the screen halfway or more so that you have enough
- room to maneuver around obstacles. Just be sure to keep
- the nose of the ship visible at all times.
- - Never pass up a Fuel Tank that you can destroy. You may
- find that it is the last tank for a long distance and
- could be the difference between life and death.
- - Explosions will kill you.
- - Don't hold the buttons down. You're increasing your
- chance of death if you're close to something because the
- object's explosion is larger and more dangerous then the
- object in it's original form.
- - Stay as far right as you possibly can. There are plenty
- of traps and you'll need almost a full screen to navigate
- them.
- - Avoid vertical rockets by staying high on the screen and
- pulling back when the rocket launches. You can also force
- a launch by going high and coming back down.
- - Destroy magnetic mines as soon as they appear on the
- screen, try not to leave them hanging around.
-
-
- Problem Solving
- ---------------
- Consult PROBLEMS.TXT for help in solving any problems you
- many have.
-
-
- Shareware
- ---------
- Evasive Maneuvers is copyrighted software, however, you are
- encouraged to copy and freely distribute the Shareware version
- as long as all files are included. Shareware allows you to "try
- it before you buy it". So what are you waiting for? Share it!
-
- Why register? Besides getting an incredible registered
- version of Evasive Maneuvers, registration will ensure future
- games will be released and with the same high quality. You are
- also supporting the entire Shareware concept, without which,
- many excellent programs would not be available. We don't
- receive a penny when you purchase a disk with Evasive Maneuvers
- on it from a Shareware Library, or download it from a commercial
- information service, such as CompuServe, or from a BBS.
-
- Besides, you get 3 more scenarios that are not shareware.
- You'll get "Infrastructure", "E.N.I.A.C. 9", and
- "Desert Valley". More challenge than the Imperial City ever
- offered. Print out ORDERFRM.TXT or atleast look at it to see
- what information we need and write us by hand.
