  20. **************** 1. OVERVIEW *******************

  22. What does this program do?
  23. You can arrange a list of wav files, and assign this list to a
  24. single sound event.  For example, let's say your sound event 
  25. for Empty Recycle Bin is flush.wav.  Now you can select as many
  26. files as you want, let's say flush.wav, nuke.wav, shred.wav, 
  27. and more if you wish.  Now whenever you empty the recycle bin 
  28. you will hear either a flush, nuke, or shred sound.  Soundscape
  29. will randomize these sounds automatically, depending on your 
  30. preferred settings.

  32. Every sound event list operates independently. That means you 
  33. can set multiple sound events to a single WAV file, and a single
  34. sound event to multiple WAV files, etc. to an infinite number 
  35. of combinations.

  37. You can also arrange a list of BMP files to let Soundscape 
  38. automatically randomize your desktop wallpaper, and a list
  39. of SCR files to randomize your screen saver.
  40. The Program Events Wizard will let you set up different
  41. sound events for individual programs.

  43. ******************* 2. SETUP PROCEDURES ********************

  45. You must run Setup to 1. install program files, 2. install DLL's and OCX's,
  46. 3. initiate the sound event list and 4. initiate your evaluation 
  47. license. For more information on what Setup actually does, 
  48. see the Help file (after installation).

  50. You need the file Vb40032.dll in your Windows\System directory. 
  51. You probably already have it so it's not included with Setup,
  52. but if you don't, you can get it on the Web the Soundscape page

  60. This program is shareware. An "evaluation" use is free for 
  61. 30 days, after which you must either uninstall the program 
  62. or register.  If you find this program useful, please register

  77. Before installing this software you must agree to the terms of this 
  78. license agreement. Installation of software indicates your acceptance 
  79. of the following license agreement.

  81. As this program is shareware, you are granted an EVALUATION LICENSE
  82. which is valid for 30 days.  After 30 days, you are required to 
  83. either register the software (see "Shareware") or uninstall it from 
  84. your computer.
  85.  
  86. A "registered" copy of the software is a copy of the program with 
  87. valid registration numbers entered (in the registry). An "unregistered"
  88. or "evaluation" copy of the software has no valid registration 
  89. numbers entered (in the registry). All "unregistered" copies of
  90. this software have a "nag screen" that pops up when the program 
  91. starts.  A "registered" copy lacks the nag screen.

  93. You are allowed to distribute the evaluation portion of this program, 
  94. but not to distribute any registration information or files that 
  95. would allow someone else who hasn't registered to have a "registered"
  96. copy. (Registration information is contained in the Windows 95 registry.)

  100. Although a reasonable effort has been made to fully debug this 
  101. program, the author or distributors of this program under no 
  102. circumstances will be held liable for any damages, in any form,

  106. This program modifies the files system.ini, system.dat, and user.dat,
  107. all in your Windows\System directory. Although nothing will normally
  108. go wrong, it is recommended to back up these files.

  110. ******************* 5. MANUAL INSTALLATION ********************
  111.  
  112. Recommended only for advanced users who have trouble with Setup.
  113.  
  114. Shared files: copy Mfc40.dll, Msvcrt40.dll, Olepro32.dll, 
  115. Comctl32.ocx, Comdlg32.ocx, and Fmdrop32.ocx to your Windows\System
  116. directory. Register the OCX's by typing
  117. regsvr32 ***.ocx
  118. at the Start > Run prompt where ***.ocx is the name of each OCX file.
  119. Copy all the other files included in this zip to your preferred
  120. installation directory and rename the files as such:
  121.      .da_     -->    .dat
  122.      .cn_     -->    .cnt
  123.      .ex_     -->    .exe
  124.      .gi_     -->    .gid
  125.      .hl_     -->    .hlp
  126. You don't need to copy Setup.exe and Stkit432.dll.
  127. If you install Soundscape this way, your evaluation license will
  128. not be initialized properly, but you should still be able to
  129. use it.
