  3. Very many new viruses have appeared recently. In an effort to "catch up",
  4. we are releasing a new version, which adds detection of over 700 new
  5. viruses added since 2.24a was released.  
  6.  
  7. We also added detection of Moloch, which was the only virus on the
  8. "Wild list" that we did not detect.  This means that as far as we know,
  9. F-PROT now detects all the viruses that are considered a "real" problem
  10. anywhere in the world.
  11.  
  12. Finally we corrected an error in in the memory detection of certain
  13. viruses.

  16. Version 2.24a
  17.  
  18. This version fixes a major error in F-PROT, which was discovered the day
  19. after it was released.  The error had to do with floppy disk boot sector
  20. virus detection, where a number of boot sector viruses (some of which have
  21. been detected since version 1.0) were suddenly not reported at all.
  22.  
  23. This one should never have slipped through our quality control, but it
  24. somehow did - we will take the steps necessary to prevent a fiasco like
  25. this from happening again.
  26.  
  27. We also made a few other minor changes: corrected some typos in the DOC
  28. files, fixed a Tentacle_II false alarm, and added detection and removal of
  29. one new Word macro virus.
  30.  
  31. We also decided to include VIRLIST.LIS in a .ZIP file, so that the primary
  32. .ZIP file would fit on a single diskette when unpacked.

  35. Version 2.24 - major changes:
  36.  
  37.     If you expected to find here a big note saying that we added
  38.     detection and removal of Hare and Laroux, which have generated
  39.     considerable media attention recently, you were partially right.
  40.     We did indeed add this - However, we do not consider those viruses
  41.     to be the major threat that some other anti-virus companies and the
  42.     media claim them to be, and we consider the importance of those
  43.     viruses to have been hyped way out of proportion.
  44.  
  45.     The F-MACRO.EXE program which was included with version 2.23 has
  46.     been replaced with a new program, named F-MACROW.EXE, which is a
  47.     Windows application, specifically written to detect and disinfect
  48.     Microsoft Word and Excel macro viruses.  This program can detect and
  49.     disinfect over 50 macro viruses and Trojans, including the recently
  50.     reported Laroux Excel virus.  Please see F-MACROW.DOC for further
  51.     information.

  53. Version 2.24 - the following problems were found and corrected:

  55.         The disinfection of the Quandary virus from the hard disk didn't
  56.         work - F-PROT was complaining that the original MBR could not
  57.         be found. Fixed.
  58.  
  59.         The DelCMOS viruses were not detected in memory. Fixed.
  60.  
  61. Version 2.24 - the following false alarms were fixed:
