- Version 3.97.2 -- December 12, 1997
-
- 1. Q: When installing PGS97, I get a message that there
- are OLE files in use and it says to reboot and try to
- install again. When I install again, it does the same
- thing.
-
- A: The problem here is that certain OLE system files are
- in use by some program running on your system and the
- installation program can't replace the file while it is
- being used. You need to close all running applications
- before running a setup program. In some rare cases, this
- may involve closing programs running in your system
- tray (right end of the taskbar), as well as those that
- appear on the main part of the taskbar. Also, if you
- have Microsoft Office the Office Fast-Start in the
- Startup folder may be using these OLE files.

- 2. Q: When installing on Windows 95, the setup program
- says that the file CTL3D32.DLL is the wrong version for
- my operating system (It is for Windows NT).
-
- A: This message appears to be generated by the setup
- program when it detects that the wrong version of
- CTL3D32.DLL is already installed on the system. There
- are two versions of this file, one for Windows 95 and one
- for Windows NT. The installation program contains both
- versions and will install the proper one for your operating
- system. Simply press OK when you get this message and
- let the installation continue.

- 3. Q: I've been playing PGS97 for a long time, but now
- when I start the PGS97 program, all I get is the
- introductory screen and nothing else happens.
-
- A: You probably just installed a new program that
- overwrote the files OLEPRO32.DLL and/or OLEAUT32.DLL
- with older versions (from 1996). This is bad, since all
- install programs should only overwrite a file if the file
- being replaced is older and should never overwrite a
- newer file with an older one. Unfortunately, there are
- many installation programs that do this. The best
- thing to do is just re-install PGS97, as this should
- overwrite these files with their newer versions. The
- PGS97 install will not overwrite any file with an older
- version than the one that already exists.

- 4. Q: When I start a game the program plays a bunch of
- moves automatically even though I have AutoPlay turned
- off.
-
- A: This is the automatic game saving feature. When you
- quit a game in progress, the program will automatically
- save your position. When you play that particular game
- again, the program will replay all your moves up to the
- point where you left off. You can either continue playing
- or click on the new game button for a new game. The
- automatic game saving feature can be turned off in the
- Options menu.

- 5. Q: Why am I having so much trouble moving cards to the
- free cells in Eight Off?
-
- A: Eight Off has 9 cards across the screen, which is a
- very tight fit in 640x480 resolution. This requires great
- precision in your drag/drop to get the card to go into
- the right cell. There are two solutions to this: 1. Change
- to a higher screen resolution, such as 800x600. This
- gives more space so the piles are more spread out.
- You can change screen resolutions by pressing Start ->
- Settings -> Control Panel --> Display --> Settings.
- 2. Use the right-clicking feature to move a card to a
- cell. Right-clicking on a card will move it to an empty
- cell (unless the card can be moved to the foundation or
- another tableau pile).

- 6. Q: I'm a registered owner of a previous version of
- Pretty Good Solitaire 97. What happens if I install
- this new version?
-
- A: This new version will automatically recognize your
- registration from the old version. You can install it
- either in the same directory as the previous version, or
- in a new directory. If you install in a new directory,
- copy the file GOODSOL.INI from the old directory to
- the new one. This file contains all your statistics and
- settings, so you won't have to start your statistics
- over from zero. If you are registered user of the old
- 16-bit Windows 3.1 Pretty Good Solitaire, you will need
- to contact Goodsol Development at support@goodsol.com
- for a new registration code. See the help file in the
- registration area for details (under "Upgrades to
- registered owners of 16-bit programs").
