  1. Microsoft(R) Plus! for Kids
  2. Make Windows(R) 95 even more secure and fun for kids
  3.  
  4. Microsoft(R) Plus! for Kids makes the family PC more secure for parents 
  5. and more inviting and fun for kids.  Parents use Protect It! to quickly 
  6. and easily set up desktop and Internet security.  Kids get to play with 
  7. 3 engaging creativity applications (Talk It!, Play It! and Paint It!), 
  8. cool fonts, 1000+ clip art images, and 10 desktop themes.  Make Windows 
  9. 95 come alive with 10 kid-oriented desktop themes that dramatically 
  10. enhance the look and sound of your PC. Each desktop theme comes with 
  11. unique sounds , wallpaper, screen savers, desktop icons, fonts, colors, 
  12. and really cool animated mouse pointers.  Choose from: Baseball, Bugs, 
  13. Horses, Jungle, Messy Room, RE-Man, Snowboarding, Space, Tree House, 
  14. Underwater.

  16. To demo the Underwater desktop theme:
  17. 1) Install the demo.  If you downloaded the file from the Internet and 
  18. chose to open the file, the demo was automatically installed.  If you 
  19. chose to save the file, then run KIDPLUSD.EXE from the directory where 
  20. you saved the file.
  21. 2) Click on the Start button and select Programs, then Microsoft Plus! for 
  22. Kids Demo, and then choose Microsoft Plus! for Kids Demo.
  23. 3) Click the Run Theme Demo button.
  24. 4) Choose the Underwater (Demo) theme from the Theme drop down list at 
  25. the top.
  26. 5) Click OK to apply the theme and close the desktop theme switcher.
  27.  
  28. To remove the demo:
  29. 1) Click on the Start button and select Programs, followed by Microsoft Plus! for 
  30. Kids Demo/ and then choose Microsoft Plus! for Kids Demo.
  31. 2) Click the Run Theme Demo button.
  32. 3) Set the desktop theme to Windows Default (Demo)
  33. 4) Click on the Start button and select Settings/Control Panel
  34. 5) Click on Add/Remove Programs
  35. 6) Select Microsoft Plus! for Kids Demo and click the Add/Remove button
  36. 7) Click on the "Remove All" button
  37.  
  38. NOTE: If you select "Reinstall" instead while in the Add/Remove Control Panel program,
  39. an error will be generated and reinstall will not happen.  If you wish to reinstall, it
  40. is suggested that you close the dialog, select "Remove All" and then reinstall the 
  41. demo program.

  43. Problems with Microsoft Plus! or Microsoft Plus! for Kids:
  44. If you already have Microsoft Plus! or Microsoft Plus! for Kids installed, 
  45. the Plus! version of themes.exe and Desktop Themes control panel may not work.  
  46. You will have to reinstall the Plus! Desktop Themes to get the Control Panel program
  47. working and to be able to view all themes again.  
  48.  
  49. To restore settings:
  50. 1) Click on the Start button and select Settings/Control Panel
  51. 2) Click on Add/Remove Programs
  52. 3) Select Microsoft Plus! for Kids or Microsoft Plus! and click the Add/Remove button
  53. 4) Click the Reinstall button
  54.  
  55. If you start Desktop Themes from Microsoft Plus! and can't find your regular themes, 
  56. try using the "Other.." Theme selection when selecting a theme.  Then use the button with 
  57. an arrow that  points up and to the left to find the correct directory where you 
  58. installed the themes.  If you don't see the "Other..." selection, close the Desktop Themes 
  59. application and start it again.

  61. Microsoft Plus! for Kids features:
  62. - Protect It! is an easy-to-use parental control application that 
  63. conveniently integrates desktop and Internet security into one 
  64. interface.  Protect It! allows you to quickly set up profiles for 
  65. each family member, specifying what access they have to files, programs, 
  66. computer settings, and modem usage. 
  67. - Talk It! is a text-to-speech application that gives kids endless 
  68. enjoyment by speaking back the text they type in using 20 different 
  69. funny voices
  70. - Play It! is an electronic keyboard application that allows kids to 
  71. play and modify one of 10 different styles of music, including Rock 
  72. and Hip Hop, or to record their own tunes using 100+ cool drum sound 
  73. noises.  Guaranteed that no two performances will be alike! 
  74. - Paint It! is a full-featured graphics application that includes 
  75. dozens of cool painting and drawing tools, audio tool tips, color 
  76. palettes, and special effects - like the Blender tool that changes 
  77. your picture in crazy ways such as making it crack into pieces! 
  78. - Picture Picker is a clip art program with 1,000+ kid-oriented clip 
  79. art images, ranging from realistic color graphics to cartoon style 
  80. images.  Choose from 19 categories, including Animals and People.

  85. To use Microsoft Plus! for Kids, you need:
  86. - Personal or multimedia computer with a 486DX/33 Mhz or higher processor
  87. - Microsoft Windows 95 operating system or Windows NT(R) Workstation 
  88. operating system 4.0 or later*
  89. - 8 MB of memory (RAM)
  90. - 32 MB of available hard disk space for the complete install   Additional
  91. hard disk space required if you install Microsoft Internet Explorer.
  92. - CD-ROM drive
  93. - Super VGA, 256-color monitor and video card
  94. - Microsoft Mouse or compatible pointing device
  95. - Microsoft compatible sound card
  96. To use the Internet security features of Protect It!, you need:
  97. - 9600 or higher-baud modem (14.4 baud recommended) required for 
  98. Internet access
  99. - Internet access (may require a separate payment to your Internet
  100. service provider)
  101. - Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0 or later.   Microsoft Internet Explorer
  102. 3.01 is included on the Microsoft Plus! for Kids compact disc.

  104. *Only the following features run on Windows NT Workstation 4.0 or later: 
  105. Talk It!, Play It!, Paint It!, Picture Picker, and fonts.  Features 
  106. that do not run on Windows NT Workstation 4.0 or later include:
