Thank you for your interest in the Pentium(R) OverDrive(R) processor with MMX(tm) technology!  The original BIOS code in some computers is incompatible with the higher-speed OverDrive processor with MMX technology.  In computers that have an incompatible BIOS, the BIOS must be updated before installing a Pentium OverDrive processor.  Failure to do so will cause your system to lock up after installation.

  12. The diagnostic utility performs a simple test to check the compatibility of the BIOS code on your system with the Pentium OverDrive processor with MMX technology.  A Pentium processor-based system running Windows* 3.1, Windows 95, or Windows NT (3.51 or 4.0) is required to run this utility.

  14. Extract and Run
  15. ---------------
  16. - There is no need to close other applications before running the utility.
  17. - Windows 3.1 and Windows NT 3.51 users: From the Program Manager menu, choose File and then choose Run.
  18. - Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0 users: From the taskbar, choose Start and then choose Run.
  19. - Browse to the location of the diagnostic utility, BIOS_CHK.EXE, and select it.  Click OK to run the utility.

If the test passes successfully, your system BIOS is compatible with the Pentium OverDrive processor with MMX technology.  If it fails, you must update your system BIOS before installing a Pentium OverDrive processor with MMX technology, or your system will lock up.  This lock-up may occur with every boot-up, or only after your system configuration has been changed (e.g., after adding a graphics/audio card or other new hardware).
