General

What is Webaroo?
Webaroo is search…unplugged. A free software service that gives you the power to search and browse the web ~ anywhere, anytime, without a connection. Perfect for a laptop, PDA, or smart phone, Webaroo searches deliver relevant results and their graphic web pages; giving you the information and answers you want, wherever you are.

Top

Why do I need Webaroo?

You can search and browse the web on your handheld without a connection, for free. The Webaroo search and browse experience is super fast because the content is stored on the handheld, unlike other mobile search solutions that suffer wireless network delays.

Top

What are the supported mobile devices?
Webaroo supports mobile devices (PDAs and smart phones) running the Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition for Pocket PC operating system. Support for Windows Mobile 5.0 will be made available very soon.
We are working to bring Webaroo on other popular platforms as well. Please contact us at feedback@webaroo.com with your device details if you do not see it in the list above.

What are storage requirements for using Webaroo on my Mobile Device?

Most mobile devices have built-in storage of 64 MB to 256 MB. While it may be sufficient for downloading some web sites or a Web Pack, we recommend using a removable storage card with Webaroo. Depending upon the slots available on your mobile device, you could use an SD Card or a CF Card. We recommend cards that start at 512MB. Larger cards will let you take more web content with you.

What is a Web Pack?
A Web Pack is, quite simply, a large collection of web pages, along with meta-data that enables search, updates and more. Web packs are typically about a specific topic (e.g. baseball, city guide etc.). Web packs created by Webaroo are generally optimized for Content Density i.e. the most content value in the least storage size. Webaroo determines the content value based on the diversity and quality of the pages so that they deliver good results for almost most any query related to the topic.
WebarooΓÇÖs goal is to make lots of varied web packs available. If you have suggestions for Web Packs you would like to see on Webaroo, email us at feedback@webaroo.com.

Why do I see multiple storage cards when I connect my mobile device?
Webaroo is not recognizing my mobile device. What can I do?

Webaroo only runs on a mobile device running the Windows Mobile operating system. If you have Windows Mobile on your device try doing the following:

Check if your mobile device is connected properly

Disconnect and reconnect your mobile device to your computer

Refresh your Mobile Device Library on the content page

Top

What are the storage requirements on Mobile device to use Webaroo?

How much storage you need depends on how much content you want to carry with you. A 512 MB or 1 GB card is ideal, even though Webaroo will work with as little as 64 MB storage.
Also, you do not need storage that is dedicated to Webaroo usage, you could insert a 1 GB card and use it for Webaroo as well as other applications.

Content
-->

How can I update content on mobile device?
All you need to do is connect your mobile device to your laptop or desktop. If Webaroo is running on your PC, Webaroo automatically updates the content on your mobile device.

Web Packs are collections of web pages chosen using Webaroo's proprietary, patent-pending algorithms to maximize the breadth and depth of content that can fit within the limited storage on mobile devices. Each Web Pack is put through intensive checks for quality and relevancy of content before it is ready for use for you. Web Packs are frequently updated to give you the latest content. We constantly keep adding to the list of Web Packs that we support. You can suggest us a Web Pack at feedback@webaroo.com.

Why do I get far fewer results in Webaroo when compared to an online search engine?

Using a mix of sophisticated algorithms and human input, Webaroo has selected only high quality non-repetitive content from web. Also it is more feasible to carry lesser but more relevant pages on a mobile device.
If for some reasons your are not satisfied with the quality of results please check for the following:

Check if the Web Pack was downloaded correctly. To know for sure, go to the Search page and check under the Web Packs tab if you see the Web Pack.

Check for typos in your search query.

Check if your search query contains very common terms (like and, or, the)

Check if your search query contains terms that are relevant to the Web Pack

Technical Troubleshooting

<!--
The site I specified was not completely downloaded. Why?

A web page can be a combination of different formats. Webaroo at the moment does not support some of these formats. Formats not supported by Webaroo are:

Pages requireing Javascript

Flash

Audio

Video

If a site contains one or more of the above formats, it may appear that it was not downloaded completely.
Also you cannot download a web page that requires authentication (a user name and password) with Webaroo. This is because Webaroo cannot fetch content from secure sites.

Top

Mobile device uninstallation is failing...
If uninstallation of Webaroo on your mobile device continuously fails, exit webaroo or reset your mobile device and then try again. If the problem persists contact support@webaroo.com with the problem and we will get back to you.

Top

Can I add content to the internal storage of my mobile device?
We recommend that you use an external storage card as adding content to the internal storage of your mobile device will make it slower to respond.
