- Welcome to the The Delrina Dilbert Screen Saver Collection
- Sampler!
-
-
- ***** If you already own the Dilbert Screen Saver Collection, you
- have the modules in this sampler set! ******
-
- ==================================================================
- The directory you created for the Dilbert Screen Saver Sampler
- should contain these files:
-
- ATWORK.ASA
- CYBER.ASA
- DBICON.DLL
- DILBERT.EXE
- MEMMIDI.DLL
- README.TXT
- SAMPANT.DLL
- SAMPASA.IMQ
- SAMPLER.HLP
- SAMPLIB.DLL
- LICENSE.TXT*
- THEPITCH.TXT**
-
- When you run the sampler the following files will be created in
- the Windows directory:
-
- DELRSAMP.INI
- ANTSW.INI
-
- * LICENSE.TXT contains the Dilbert Sampler license agreement.
-
- ** THEPITCH.TXT contains information on how to order
- the Dilbert Screen Saver Collection.
-
- ==================================================================
- [Remove]
-
- The Dilbert Sampler does not make changes to any of your .INI
- files or to your AUTOEXEC.BAT or CONFIG.SYS files. It should be
- very easy to cleanly remove the sampler when you upgrade to the
- full-featured screen saver.
-
- To remove the Dilbert Sampler:
-
- a. Ensure that the Dilbert Sampler is not running. (Shut the
- program down and delete any icons in the Program Manager.)
- b. From Windows File Manager (or from DOS) delete the directory
- containing DILBERT.EXE.
- c. From Windows File Manager (or from DOS), delete DELRSAMP.INI
- from the Windows directory.
-
- ==================================================================
- [NOTES]
-
- 1. To create the sampler, the following features have been
- disabled or removed from the full-featured Dilbert Screen
- Saver:
-
- "Add" Option:
- No modules can be added to the Dilbert Sampler
-
- "Remove" Option:
- No Modules can be removed from the Dilbert Sampler
-
- No templates are supplied
-
- 2. The Dilbert Sampler ships with the same Help as Intermission.
- So, don't be alarmed if you find Help documentation for
- features which don't exist in the Sampler (such as the
- disabled functions).
-
- 3. The screen saver delay that is set in Windows' Control Panel
- will take precedence over the one set in Intermission. If
- you have Intermission set to time out in 30 minutes, but your
- screen saver comes on after two minutes, you should disable
- the Windows Screen Saver (i.e., set to none).
-
- 4. The Dilbert Screen Saver is a sound-capable multimedia product.
- Sound will run through an installed sound card or through the
- internal speakers of your computer if either driver has been
- installed.
-
- You can check to see if either driver has been installed by
- looking in the Control Panel in the Main Group of your
- Windows Program Manager.
-
- To hear sound in Intermission modules, you need to:
-
- a. Have a sound card and the appropriate drivers, or a
- PC Speaker Driver installed.
-
- b. Make sure the volume is set in the Intermission
- Options dialog box and for your sound card.
-
- NOTE: Remember, that PC speaker drivers (which use your PC's
- built-in speaker) may cause your machine to pause when
- sounds are being played. The wait cursor will freeze.
- The sound quality will be marginal. For sound driver
- installation instructions, refer to your Windows
- documentation.
-
- If you don't have a sound driver installed, the internal
- speaker driver can be downloaded from the Delrina forum under
- the Consumer Software Division section on Compuserve.
-
- From America Online, you can download the speaker driver
- file from the PC Music and Sound Forum Library. The filename
- is SPEAK.EXE. (Keyword: PC Music)
-
- 5. The Dilbert Sampler is not designed to run while other screen
- savers are running and vice versa. This includes Intermission
- 4.0, 3.0, 2.0 and Screenpeace. The sampler will only run the
- supplied screen saver modules.
-
- 6. If you use a compressed hard drive (using Stacker or
- DoubleSpace, or another disk compression utility), some ASA
- modules will take longer to load than they would from an
- uncompressed drive. This occurs once at the beginning of the
- animation, when the entire file is loaded into memory. The
- actual performance of the animation does not suffer.
-
- 7. The configuration dialog of some modules includes a check
- box to "Skip Songs". This option only applies to those
- modules that include MIDI sounds. Since none of the sampler
- modules use MIDI this box has no effect.
-
- 8. Some Intermission ASA modules may require up to three
- megabytes of free memory in order to play the animation.
- Should you not have the required free memory, you will see a
- message indicating that there is a problem loading the module.
-
- 9. Notes on using Intermission with Delrina's WinFax Pro.
-
- Because the Dilbert Sampler does not have an Install program,
- automatic recognition of the Winfax Pro COM port is not
- supported by the sampler.
-
- Intermission 5.0 and the full-featured Dilbert ARE able to
- recognize and intelligently monitor the COM port that WinFax
- Pro is using to enable error free faxing!
-
- If you have been avoiding screen savers until now because
- they tend to bounce your incoming faxes, check out Delrina's
- full-featured screen savers!
-
- By default, Intermission monitors the COM ports in your
- system for activity and will blank your screen instead of
- running modules if it detects communications activity. COM
- port checking can be individually enabled by including the
- line "COMx=0" in your ANTSW.INI file (found in your Windows
- subdirectory) under the "[Intermission]" heading. For
- example "COM1=0" would enable COM port checking for COM1. You
- must restart Intermission to update the settings.
-
- If the switch COMx=0 is found in the ANTSW.INI file, the
- following occurs when you are running Delrina WinFax:
-
- a. At Intermission startup, Intermission tries to find WinFax.
-
- b. If Intermission cannot locate WinFax, it tries a second
- time after 15 seconds (in case both programs are in the
- StartUp group), and Intermission loads first.
-
- c. If Intermission is still unable to locate WinFax, it will
- try each time the saver is invoked. When WinFax is found,
- Intermission just blanks the screen the FIRST time. This
- is to make sure that we aren't blanking in the middle of
- a Fax transmission.
-
- d. If a WinFax Receive or Transmit happens while Intermission
- is blanked, Intermission flashes the message sprite
- "! Faxing" in the upper left corner of the screen. This
- is followed by a "! wake up" sprite. This sprite is also
- used to tell you how many e-mail and FAX messages you have
- received while the screen saver module has been running.
-
- e. If Intermission activates while a Fax transmission is
- happening, it will just turn your screen blank.
-
- 10. Cirrus Logic video cards: Users of Cirrus Logic video cards,
- running the Cirrus Logic drivers, could experience problems
- with the Dilbert Sampler. You can check to see whether you
- are running the Cirrus Logic drivers by checking the Windows
- Setup area in the Main Group. If the Display reads "CL <code
- number>", then you are running the Cirrus Logic drivers.
- You can avoid driver-related errors you may be having by
- changing to the Windows VGA or Super VGA driver.
-
- 11. Odd Colors: The configuration dialog for "animation" modules
- also includes check boxes to "Optimize for 16 Colors" and to
- "Use Real Colors (VGA)". These options are only applicable
- if your video drivers or hardware use a palette that differs
- from the standard Windows VGA palette (most 3rd party video
- drivers do). Intermission will default to using the correct
- palette settings in most cases. However, some drivers will
- cause the animation to color incorrectly. In that case,
- checking "Optimize for 16 Colors" forces Intermission to use
- the correct palette. "Use Real Colors (VGA)" should only be
- checked when you are using the standard Windows video drivers
-
- a. VGA,
- b. VGA 3.0, or
- c. Super VGA 800 x 600, 16 colors.
-
- Some video cards will alter the standard palette settings.
- Checking "Use Real Colors (VGA)" will correct that problem.
-
- 12. 8514A Video Driver: If you are using 8514A video drivers, and
- experience painting problems with ASA modules the problem
- should be corrected if you check the "Optimize For 16 Colors"
- check box in the module configuration dialogs.
-
- 13. Black screen: If the Dilbert Sampler turns the screen black
- instead of running a module, uncheck the Monitor CPU Activity
- option in the general section of the Options Dialog Box. This
- should provide a work-around for the problem.
-
- 14. Random screen trails during animation: If the characters
- leave black lines or traces of themselves during the animation
- process, place a check mark in the "Optimize for 16 Color"
- checkbox. This checkbox is located in the "Configure" dialog.
-
- ==================================================================
- Owners of Intermission 5.0 can add the two modules that are
- included in this Dilbert Sampler!
-
- [Adding Dilbert Sampler modules to Intermission 5.0]
-
- a. Unzip the DBSAMPLE.EXE file as instructed in the
- INSTRUCT.TXT file supplied.
- b. Run Intermission 5.0.
-
-
- *** The following must be done from Intermission 5.0, NOT
- the sampler! ***
-
- c. Select the ADD button.
- d. Change to the directory containing the unzipped files.
- e. Highlight CYBER.ASA and ATWORK.ASA
- f. Select the ADD button.
- g. The modules should appear in your Installed Saver list.
-
- *** Do not add the SAMPASA.IMQ file. It may cause unexpected
- results. ***
