  6. By early August both the U.S. 7th Army under Patton and the British 
  7. 8th Army under Montgomery were racing towards the city of Messina. Spoiling
  8. their race was the skillful delaying actions by the withdrawing German
  9. Army. In this scenario the U.S. 3rd Infantry Division is driving up the
  10. coastal road towards the town of Santa Agata. Once again the men of the
  11. 3rd Division came under heavy fire. What followed was typical of the
  12. Sicily campaign.
