- 1. INTRODUCTION
-
- Novaterm was designed with the idea that a terminal program should
- incorporate a wide variety of features to support the diverse needs of
- the individual user. While the program seems large and complicated,
- its simple and straightforward user interface makes it easy for even
- the inexperienced user to become proficient.
-
- 1.1 Registration
-
- Novaterm 9.3 is released as SHAREWARE. That means if you like the
- program and use it regularly, you are obligated to register by sending
- in at least $20 U.S. ($23.50 Canadian) as compensation for the work
- that's gone into the program. (It's not a small amount of work.)
- Also, if you plan to use the modules in your own programs (such as a
- BBS) you are obligated to register as well. It may seem strange to
- pay for something you got free, but there are advantages to having
- your copy registered:
-
- * You'll receive a registration number that stays with you.
-
- * Future major releases of Novaterm will be mailed directly to you.
-
- * You will receive a disk with a copy of the current version. The
- title screen will display your name, address, and registration
- number instead of the shareware notice.
-
- * For all you programmers, you'll receive a complete memory map of
- Novaterm. You'll be able to write modules using this.
-
- * You'll be supporting shareware, which is the last hope for quality
- software in the virtually defunct 8-bit Commodore commercial
- market.
-
- How do you get all this stuff? Send your registration to:
-
- Nick Rossi
- 427 Avenue J
- Snohomish, WA 98290
-
- Make checks paid to the order of Nick Rossi. Return delivery usually
- takes a couple of weeks, due to mail forwarding time and my workload
- at school. I gratefully thank you for your interest in Novaterm and
- any donation you choose to send.
-
- If you have comments, please feel free to write to me. Be sure to
- send a self-addressed stamped envelope for a reply! I always welcome
- comments and complaints and news of bugs that will undoubtedly show
- up, as no program is perfect. I can receive electronic mail at the
- following locations and mail addresses:
-
- Q-link: "Nick Rossi"
- Bitnet: "nrossi@hmcvax.claremont.edu"
- Usenet/Internet: "nrossi@jarthur.claremont.edu"
-
- No phone calls, please. I am not in an office here.
-
- SPECIAL NOTE FOR USER GROUPS: A users' group may register as a whole
- by sending a $50 registration fee along with a list of group members.
- Everyone in the users' group becomes a registered user of the program,
- and all updates of Novaterm are sent to the group to be distributed
- within. If your group would like to "bulk register", you may
- certainly contact me by mail first to make any arrangements, as this
- is a larger (but more economical) investment.
-
-
- 1.2 Updates and new modules
-
- Registered users will receive all major new releases of Novaterm by
- mail. However, I simply can't afford to mail out copies of the
- program every time a minor bug fix is made or a new module is written,
- which happens more frequently. To get the most recent version of the
- program and modules without waiting for them to find their way to your
- area, try one of the following:
-
- 1. The latest versions and modules will always be available on GEnie
- and Quantum-Link in the Commodore telecommunications download
- directory. If you have accounts on either of these systems, you may
- download the files from there.
-
- 2. Aprotek (maker of various Commodore products) will have the most
- recent updates on its bulletin board available for download.
- First-time callers have access. The number is (503)582-1225. I
- personally cannot answer questions through this BBS; only the program
- itself is available there.
-
- 3. You may mail a blank disk and a self-addressed stamped disk mailer
- to me, and I will put Novaterm on the disk and send it back to you.
- Please have the courtesy to register first if you are going to do this
- more than once.
-
-
- 1.3 Special thanks!
-
- Special thanks goes out to the following people for helping to make
- the development and distribution of Novaterm possible:
-
- Very valuable consultants: Kent Sullivan, Joe Gunderson, Ray Moody
-
- Beta-testers: Steve Craik, Stu Goldstone, Sal Manfredonia, George
- Noel, John Palfrey, Kirk Starnes, Kent Sullivan, Kurt Tiedtke
-
- Additional thanks to: Joel Bergen, Dan Bosch, Cathy Papp, Kevin Mills
-
- Thanks to George Hug for writing those excellent RS-232 routines.
-
- Thanks to my mother Laura Rossi, who forwards all of my mail to me at
- school!
-
- And thanks to everyone who took the time to report bugs, make
- suggestions, and provide monetary support. Every little bit has
- helped to make this program.
-
-
- 1.4 Notice
-
- Novaterm is a shareware program, and is released according to the
- shareware agreement described above. No part of this program may be
- modified or altered with the intent of redistribution without the
- express written permission of the author. (Modification for personal
- use is fine.) The source code to this program cannot be made
- available due to past problems with unauthorized modifications.
