  3.     This version includes a few changes from 2.23, including a fix for
  4.     a bug in 2.23, where F-PROT could run out of file handles, while
  5.     doing a heuristic scan.   We also added detection of a few viruses,
  6.     as well as disinfection of the polymorphic Werewolf.1500 virus,
  7.     which is "in the wild".

  9.     The F-MACRO program has also been updated to version 1.15, and several
  10.     minor bugs in it have been fixed.

  12.     The list of SimTel mirror sites has been updated.

  16. Version 2.23 - major changes:
  17.  
  18.     A separate scanner/disinfector for Word Macro viruses is included
  19.     in this version. See F-MACRO.DOC for a brief description.
  20.  
  21.     Disinfection of boot sector viruses has been improved, as can be seen
  22.     from the list below of viruses that were detected previously, but can
  23.     only now be disinfected.
  24.  
  25.     VIRSTOP2 (The replacement for VIRSTOP) has been updated to accept
  26.     various command-line switches (/COPY /NOCOPY /BOOT /NOBOOT /OLD /BELL
  27.     /KEY /FREEZE).  We fixed one problem with the 2.22 version of
  28.     VIRSTOP2 - it handled the F-TEST.COM file incorrectly.  However, we 
  29.     are not yet quite ready to replace the old version with this one, so
  30.     for now, both programs are included in the package.

  32.     No other major changes are present in this version, but that does not
  33.     mean that we here at Frisk Software are getting lazy - quite the
  34.     contrary in fact, and some major changes are under development.  This
  35.     includes a rewritten scanner "engine", which should speed up the
  36.     program, as well as making it even better at dealing with polymorphic
  37.     viruses.

  39.     Also, a virus-information hypertext program is being prepared,
  40.     which will replace the outdated virus information section in the
  41.     current version of F-PROT.

  43. Version 2.23 - minor improvements and changes:

  45.    The mail server now supports MIME encoding.  Also, the list of 
  46.    official F-PROT FTP distribution sites has changed.  See UPDATES.DOC
  47.    for details.

  49.    F-PROT now detects the PKZIP 3.00B Trojan.  This Trojan is, however,
  50.    not a "real" threat, but due to some unfounded hysteria, numerous warnings
  51.    about it are in circulation, far outnumbering actual copies of the
  52.    actual Trojan.
