- HOW TO GET START PROGRAMS UP AND RUNNING
-
- NOTE: This is a double-sided disk. It is not readable on single-
- sided drives.
-
- 1) Write protect your disk.
-
- 2) Make a backup copy. We format the disk using TWISTER.PRG (from
- the December 1990 issue) to increase the size of a double-sided
- disk to 800K. You can always back up the START disk onto a
- Twisted disk or hard drive, but there may not be enough room on a
- normally formatted double-sided disk to hold all of the files.
-
- NOTE: GEM'S DISKCOPY WILL NOT BACK UP TWISTED DISKS. To make a
- backup, run STARTCPY.PRG (it's on your START disk) and follow the
- instructions. You will need to have a blank disk ready.
-
- 3) Store the original and use the backup hereafter.
-
- 4) Some of the files are compressed so that we can fit them on the
- disk. They are:
- GRAMMARC.PRG
- HURRYARC.PRG
- TIGERARC.PRG
- We use Double Click Software's DC SEA utility to create
- self-extracting archive (ARC) files. NOTE: This is a new version
- which will work with the STE. To un-ARC a program, simply
- double-click on the filename.
-
- 5) When the dialog box appears, choose Extract.
-
- 6) When the file selector appears, choose a destination disk (hard
- disk, RAM disk or floppy disk) for the uncompressed files. If you
- are not sure how to use the file selector, refer to your ST
- manual. Do not attempt to un-ARC the files to your START disk or
- backup copy, there is not enough room to hold the files. Make
- sure the destination disk has enough space for the uncompressed
- files, whose sizes are given below:
- GRAMMARC.PRG -- 243K
- HURRYARC.PRG -- 79K
- TIGERARC.PRG -- 537K
- The screen goes blank, then the files are listed as they are
- extracted, and marked "OK" if the uncompression is successful.
-
- NOTE:
