  4. To most easily view this document, open it in Notepad and click
  5. on the little "up" arrow in the upper right-hand corner to
  6. maximize the window.

  9. **If there is a file named DEFAULT.INI included in the
  10.   zipped file you downloaded, delete DEFAULT.INI. It
  11.   contains configuration information for the computer
  12.   belonging to the person who uploaded the zipped file
  13.   and so will not perform properly on your computer.
  14.   WavSorter will create a DEFAULT.INI file containing
  15.   your preferences the first time you exit WavSorter.
  16.  
  17. **If you obtained WavSorter from a shareware vendor,
  18.   either as an individual program or as part of a
  19.   shareware collection, you should know that the author
  20.   has not received any compensation for the distribution
  21.   or use of WavSorter. If you like WavSorter and find it
  22.   useful, please register it. When you register, you will
  23.   receive WavSorter Pro, which has many more features and
  24.   enhancements than this evaluation version.

  26. **If you experience any difficulties installing or using
  27.   WavSorter, read the TECH_1.WRI and TECH_2.WRI files
  28.   included with WavSorter. These files contain answers to
  29.   commonly asked technical support questions. If you do not

  75. IMPORTANT NOTES
  76.  
  77. 1. Feel free to upload WavSorter to your favorite BBS's
  78.    (in fact, I hope you will). However, please be sure
  79.    to include all the files listed above so that people
  80.    who download WavSorter can use it to its fullest
  81.    capabilities.

  83. 2. If you do upload WavSorter, PLEASE DO NOT INCLUDE YOUR
  84.    DEFAULT.INI FILE. This file is created the first time
  85.    you use WavSorter and is unique to your preferences.
  86.  
  87. 3. If you've used previous evaluation versions of WavSorter,
  88.    you may notice that this evaluation version (3.0) contains
  89.    fewer features. This was done for two reasons: 1) to keep
  90.    the size (and download time) of the evaluation version down;
  91.    and 2) to streamline and simplify the installation process.
  92.  
  93.    However, the registered version, WavSorter Pro, still contains
  94.    all of the features and enhancements included in previous
  95.    versions (as well as some additional refinements). WavSorter Pro
  96.    also includes an installation program which makes installing or
  97.    upgrading WavSorter Pro extremely easy.

  99. 3. WavSorter includes a feature called Magic Target Help
  100.    which allows you to easily call up information and help
  101.    on objects and menu items by clicking on them when Magic
  102.    Target Help is turned on. Not all objects in Visual Basic
  103.    respond to clicking, however, so while almost all objects
  104.    in WavSorter's main window respond to Magic Target Help,
  105.    there are a few which do not.

  107. 4. If you would like to use the "jumps" (green text) in the
  108.    Magic Target Help popup windows, turn on Help by choosing
  109.    the Contents item on the Help Menu before turning on
  110.    Magic Target Help (this is optional and is only necessary
  111.    if you want to use the "jumps").
  112.  
  113. 5. Directories, files, and folders all drag and drop. If
  114.    you're not sure whether or not an object in the main
  115.    window responds to drag and drop, drag something over
  116.    it and watch the OpLight for information.
  117.  
  118. 6. If you want to get started right away, there's an item on
  119.    the Help Menu called "Getting Started" which will provide
  120.    you with the minimum information necessary to begin using
  121.    WavSorter.

  124. INSTALLATION
  125.  
  126. **WavSorter will not run properly with VBRUN100.DLL or VBRUN200.DLL;
  127.   you must have VBRUN300.DLL in your Windows "system" directory in
  128.   order to use WavSorter. Also, you must have versions of the .vbx
  129.   files with dates of 4/28/93 or later (these are included with
  130.   WavSorter).

  132. You install WavSorter by doing the following:
  133.  
  134. 1. Create a directory for WavSorter and name it something
  135.    appropriate like "wavsortr", or whatever name you want.
  136.  
  137. 2. Copy or move the following files to your WavSorter
  138.    directory:
  139.  
  140.     wseval.exe
  141.     ws.hlp
  142.     tech_1.wri
  143.     tech_2.wri
  144.     file_id.diz
  145.     readme.txt
  146.  
  147. 3. Copy or move the following files to your Windows "system"
  148.    directory (e.g., c:\windows\system):
  149.  
  150.     cmdialog.vbx
  151.     mci.vbx
  152.     threed.vbx
  153.  
  154. **Note that these .vbx files are included in MicroSoft Visual
  155.   Basic 3.0, both the Standard and Professional editions.
  156.   If you have either of these programs, you already have
  157.   copies of those .vbx's on your computer. Since MicroSoft
  158.   has been known to "slipstream" newer versions of its
  159.   programs without telling anyone, it is always good
  160.   practice to compare the dates of the .vbx's included
  161.   in WavSorter with the dates of the same .vbx's you
  162.   already have on your system so you won't overwrite a
  163.   newer version of the .vbx. This step is, of course,
  164.   optional and doesn't affect WavSorter in any way but it's
  165.   still a good idea to do it.

  167. 4. Create a group and/or program item for WavSorter in
  168.    Program Manager (or your favorite Program Manager
  169.    substitute, if you use one) just like you would for
  170.    any program.
  171.  
  172. 5. Double-click on the WavSorter icon to start WavSorter.

  175. UN-INSTALL
  176.  
  177. I hope you will like using WavSorter, but if you decide to
  178. remove it from your computer, do the following:
  179.  
  180. 1. Delete all the files from your WavSorter directory.
  181.  
  182. 2. Remove (delete) your WavSorter directory.
  183.  
  184. 3. Delete the following files from your Windows "system"
  185.    directory:
  186.  
  187.     cmdialog.vbx
  188.     mci.vbx
  189.     threed.vbx
  190.  
  191. **Note: Do not delete these .vbx files if you have MicroSoft
  192.   Visual Basic, Standard or Professional editions since
  193.   you need these files for yourself. Also, do not delete
  194.   these files if they are needed by another Visual Basic
  195.   application. I know this is probably self-evident but it's
  196.   easy to make mistakes in the heat of the moment.

  231. permission to distribute WavSorter 3.0.
