  100. INSTALLATION of the KaraDos product:
  101. -----------------------------------
  102. create a directory
  103. >mkdir c:\karados
  104. >cd c:\karados
  105.  unzip all files .
  106. > unzip or pkunzip kardp163.zip
  107. Apart for the .mid .txt .kar examples, all others
  108.   files must be kept in the same directory.
  109. Then type :
  110. > install
  111.  answer to questions, then type
  112. > ultramid  <return> (GUS only: if you want to use a gus with internal synth.)
  113. > kdir demo <return>
  114.  
  115. select a mode with the <tab> key  (VERY IMPORTANT but must be Ok)
  116. select a song with the up and down arrow keys or mouse
  117. then press enter or left mouse button,
  118.  and ... sing
  119.

  121. For MPU401 or COM user configure by editing the kara.cfk file
  122. and add the line :
  123. #hd=MPU401
  124. (default address is 330h and can be changed with an environmental
  125. variable MPU401=xxx  with xxx the hexadecimal address of the MPU)
  126. (no interruption needed)

  128. For serial output:
  129. #hd=COMx (with x = 1 or 2 or 3 or 4)
  130. or use setup.exe
  131. Notice that the hanshake is done with RTS/CTS signals. The 38400
  132. bauds is too speed for midi and the external box (portman for example)
  133. has to slow down the stream.

  135. For Gravis Ultrasound (standart, Max or ACE)
  136. and Sound Blaster, the detection is automatic with environmental
  137. variables ULTRASND=xxx,y,z,a,b or BLASTER=Axxx Ix Dy Ta
  138. If you have both card installed, you can choose by
  139. #hd=GUS  or
  140. #hd=SB
  141.  
  142. Please read carefully the files kdir.en and kara.en.
  143.  
  144. Note for GUS users with ultramid
  145. --------------------------------
  146. ultramid may be activated with
  147. > ultramid -16
  148. for using patches in 16 bits.
  149. For speed reasons the use of ram disk is recommended.
  150. Some "heavy" midi files with many program changes may slow down the
  151. song while loaded (mainly with the 16 bits choice). Don't know what to do.
  152. Don't forget to remove ultramid with
  153. > ultramid -f

  155. Note for OPL chip users

  157. Before loading kdir, load the ameblast driver
  158. > ameblast
  159. see the ameblast file
  160. remove it with

  164. kdir.exe and kara.exe are written with borland C++
  165.  
  166. Minimal Requirement:
  167. - a 386 or better
  168. - CGA, EGA or VGA 256k  (.bgi drivers)
  169. - a GUS,
  170. - or a SoundBlaster or GUS with an external midi expander on midi port,
  171. - or a MPU401 (uart mode) card,
  172. - or an external MIDI box on serial output with an external expander,
  173.  
  174. The KaraDos product is from  1.1 version a shareware
  175. and only for a private usage.

  177. If you use this product more than 30 days you must send me only 30 dollars
  178. or 150frs with international check for foreign (or cash in the letter)
